Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. Proverbs 27:1 HCSB
If you are like me, your mind is filled with things you need to get done. Some must be done today, some can wait until tomorrow, and some can wait a week or two.
Our Scripture passage cautions us about making plans for tomorrow. In James 4:13 it says, “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit’-yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. He goes on to say in verse 14 that we do not know what our life may bring because our lives are a mist that appears for a short time then vanishes. He says we are boasting in our arrogance when we do this, and this is evil and instead we should say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or do that.”
Procrastinating is a problem I have especially when it’s something I really don’t want to do. I did this with my salvation for years. I was saved at the age of 12 and I was careful to be obedient to God for a time but then began to backslide. It would be many years later before I would rededicate my life to the Lord.
Why do we put off something so important? I can only speak for myself, but I think there was a fear of what I would be giving up. I thought I was living my best life. That life however began to wear me down. Sin is bondage and we become enslaved to it.
I had no idea how good it could be when I started living for the Lord. I didn’t know how enriching and fulfilling a life in Christ could be. I certainly did not understand the peace and joy I would feel even among chaotic times when I walked with Him in faith. Even when my fear tries to overtake my faith, He is right there with me.
Are you procrastinating? Are you worried that your life will be missing something if you surrender it completely to the Lord? Do you have some sins that you feel you just can’t get along without?
I can promise you from personal experience if you are not living a life in Christ and a life that is totally surrendered to Him you are missing more than you know. There is no sin you are dealing with that He can’t help you be rid of. He can work it out, whatever it may be. I know because I’ve been there, done that and got the t-shirt.
What if the world ends or God calls you home before you see tomorrow? Are you ready? Are you surrendered and devoted to Him? Are you loving Him with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind? If you are not or if you aren’t sure if you are, I beg of you not to wait another day. Trust in Him today.
Pray Psalm 139:23-24 which says, “Search me God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way.”
2 Peter 3:9 tells us that God is not slow in keeping His promise as some consider slowness, but He is longsuffering or patient toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. Romans 1:18-24 tells us, however, that even though God is patient there will come a time when we reject Him enough that He will turn us over to our evil desires.
Ask yourself, “If tomorrow doesn’t come, will I be okay? Will I be spending eternity in paradise or will I find myself in the lake of fire? Get it right, right now before it’s too late.
Have a great day!
