Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
I don’t know about you, but I sometimes tend to categorize my problems. Depending on the nature and size of the problem, I categorize them as small problems that I can fix with no need to bother God. There are larger problems where I need to pray and then figure them out and there are those really big problems, I have no control over. Those I have to lay at God’s feet and wait.
Our Scripture passage, however, tells us to be anxious for nothing. We should pray about everything. We are told in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to pray without ceasing. Proverbs 3:5-6 tell us not to lean on our own understanding and acknowledge God in all our ways or all we do.
If your car tire is low, you may need to pray to get somewhere to get air or get it fixed, but you know what you need to do. You don’t need to wait till it runs flat and then pray about your flat tire. These are things we can control, and we should take care of these things.
We should live our lives in submission to God’s control. We must trust in Romans 8:28 when it says we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. We should trust in God and know that His power is perfected in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). And most importantly, we must understand that with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26, Mark 9:23, Luke 1:37).
There are so many things that go on in this world that we have no control over. We should control the things we can. We should be good stewards with what God gives us. We should give a portion of all God gives us back to Him. We should take good care of what He gives us. We can live our lives according to His Word. We can spend time giving Him worship and praise. We can serve Him and serve others. These things we have control over.
But the problems we face in these end times are often problems that only God can handle. The big problems I tend to categorize as God-sized problems. Truthfully, however, all of our problems are God-sized problems. The devil and his minions are very busy trying to pull us away from God. He wants us to think things are hopeless when problems come along, but we know from God’s word this is not true.
1 Peter 5:8 tells us this is why we must remain sober because the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. James 4:7 tells us to submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.
If you are facing a problem whether it’s a medium sized problem or a really big problem, know that all problems are God-sized problems. We should pray about everything we face. That’s just the start. The next step is to surrender yourself to God. Turn the problems over to Him and trust Him.
For me, trusting and waiting is often the hardest part because I want to jump in and do something. There are times, however, when I know I must wait for God. I try to fill those times with doing the things God calls me to do.
Focus on God, do what He has called you to do. The trials and the tribulations of this world are just distractions to try to take our focus off of God. Don’t let these distractions keep you from doing what you need to do. Pray to God, study His word and trust in Him.
He’s got this.
Have a great day!
