For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by their seeing and hearing lawless deeds) then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment.
2 Peter 2:4-9 NKJV
Many people are living their lives today as if they will never face God’s judgment. They seem oblivious to the fact that we serve a living God and a God who will us. 2 Timothy 4:1 says, “I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables.
Many people will even choose a church that makes them feel good about their sin. They want a pastor that will tell them what they want to hear. Their sin is okay. It’s all good. But these are lies. They won’t save you; they will send you to hell.
Our Scripture passage tells us that God did not spare the angels who sinned, do you not think He’s going to judge you? Do you really believe a preacher who will tell you that your sin is okay? God is going to judge these false preachers and teachers who teach a doctrine contradictory to the Bible. This is why we have to be so careful. This is why Bible study is so important.
If you don’t know the truth, it will be hard for you to discern a lie. We learn the truth not from simply reading, but studying our Bibles.
But so many of us don’t want to know the truth. We are content to live in our fantasy world where we can do as we please and God will simply overlook our sin. I know I used to be one of those people.
God saved Noah and his 7 family members from the flood that destroyed every other person in the world. He saved Lot from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
He will save you in this perverse and crooked world, but you have to maintain righteousness. This is impossible for us to do on our own, we need to be in close relationship with our Lord and Savior. We must constantly be seeking the Lord and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33).
None of us know when Jesus will return or when we will be called home. One thing we know for sure is that we will face His judgment. We will answer for every idle word ever spoken (Matthew 12:36). We will stand before the throne of judgment while God has the Book of Life open before Him. We will be judged according to our works, by the things which were written in the books (Revelation 20:12-13).
Don’t believe anyone who tells you God will just look the other way while you sin. He will judge each and every one of us. Are you ready? In Revelation 20:13-14 it tells us that Death and Hades gave up the dead in them and they were judged.
Hades is hell’s waiting room. It is described in Luke 16:23 as a place of torment. When we die either our souls go to be with the Lord, or they go to Hades to await judgment. We won’t escape God’s judgment, be sure you are ready.
Have a great day!
