For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 NKJV
I’d love to say that I have always realized how much I need Jesus, but honestly that isn’t the truth. Because looking back, I realize if that had been the truth there are many things in my life I would have done differently. There are many things in my life that would be different right now.
But whether it be the good, the bad, or the ugly I know my life was no surprise to God. I’m sure God knew the ways in which I would mess it up. He knew the disaster it would take to make me return to Him. He knew every little detail before I had a clue what I was doing.
I’m not pointing fingers at anyone here; I’m just thinking what it took to make me realize how desperately I needed Jesus in my life.
Many people have to come to a time of complete disaster to realize they need Jesus. They may not realize a need for him while things are going well. When the good paychecks are rolling in, when their health and the health of their loved ones is all good, when they have safety and security are times when it is easy to forget just how much we need Him.
I understand how easy it is to get carried away with living your life. I understand how easy it is to forget about Him when all is going well. And I even understand how easy it is to forget about Him when you think you have all the answers. I have been there and done that and got the t-shirt.
We can even forget all about Him when we are attending church faithfully and serving Him. This can become a routine that we do for all the wrong reasons.
Our Scripture passage for today, however, reminds us that we all need Jesus all the time. This is because we all sin. And no matter how good of a person you may be, you still sin. Even when we really try not to sin, we sin. It may be in the things that we think. This is why we are told in 2 Corinthians 10:5 that we must take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
We may sin with the words we say to or about others. This is why Jesus warned in Matthew 12:36-37, “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
In our earthly bodies, we will always be sinners in need of a Savior. However, if we surrender to Christ here on earth and trust in Him and obey His commands, we can be justified and purified and perfected when we get to heaven to spend eternity with God the Father and Jesus the Son. We can have the Holy Spirit fill our hearts and help us to live as best we can here on earth.
Maybe things are going really well for you, and you feel you are doing just fine without Jesus. Trust me, I can tell you from personal experience, that trials will come your way. I can also tell you that it is much easier to go through those trials with Him by your side.
Surrender to Him today before it’s too late because sadly, we never know when it will be too late. Only He knows that.
Have a great day!
