No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is from Me.” says the LORD. Isaiah 54:17 NKJV
Isaiah had the daunting task of prophesying to the Israelites in hopes to turn them back to the LORD before it was too late. This was an effort to prevent them from going into captivity. God warned Isaiah in the beginning, however, that they would not heed his warnings.
In chapter 54 verse 4, Isaiah tells the Israelites, “Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; For you will forget the shame of your youth, and will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore.”
Israel’s sin will soon bring about Egyptian captivity, Babylonian exile, and dispersion. But the glory that awaits them will overshadow all these things.
In our Scripture passage for today, Isaiah is letting the people know that while they may suffer on earth, their enemies will be destroyed. John also predicts this in Revelation 20:7-9 when during the millennial reign fire will come down from God and devour their enemies.
This is the heritage that is promised to the LORD’s servants. In order to receive this inheritance and be protected from our enemies, we must become a servant of the Lord. We must surrender our lives to Him. When we do this, He becomes our shelter.
If you find yourself in a situation where you desperately need to know that God’s protection surrounds you, read Psalm 91. This is my favorite Psalm because it promises us that if we surrender to the Lord, we will be protected by him from all that can happen to us on this earth. Now, ultimately, we know that the worst that can happen to us is death but that’s also the best thing that can happen to us. So, even if we die, we will spend eternity with our Lord and Savior in glory.
Psalm 91:1 says if we dwell in the secret place of the Most High, we shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. If we choose to make our dwelling place with the Lord, we will be protected by Him. Verse 2 says, “I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God in Him I will trust.”
Our Scripture passage for today tells us that no weapon formed shall prosper. Satan is our enemy. He often uses other people to come against us. Weapons come in many different forms. The enemy can spread vicious rumors, they can try to ruin us financially, or even try to cause us physical harm.
The promise in this Scripture passage is meant for the Israelites. Because of their repeated disobedience, they will suffer in their time here on earth, but in the millennial kingdom, God will destroy their enemies. It also holds true for us.
When we struggle with daily issues here on earth, we can be assured God’s got us. He will walk with us through the fire and the flame (Isaiah 43:2). He will uphold us with His righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10). He will give his angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways. In their hands they will bear us up so that we don’t dash our foot against a stone (Psalm 91:11-12).
My friend life on earth is hard. Why would you want to try to get through it without Jesus? God has made some awesome promises of protection and victory for those who can be called His children. John 1:12 tells us that for those who receive Him and believe in Him, they can be called children of God.
We can only share in His wonderful inheritance if we are adopted by Him and become His child.
If we fail to become His child, we will become a child of the devil. There is no middle ground here. We will suffer the eternal torment of a fiery hell.
Wouldn’t you like to know that any weapon formed against you will not prosper? Would you like to know that you are protected by God? Well, you can know if you will only surrender to Him.
