The Long Awaited Answered Prayer

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.   Galatians 6:9 ESV

We live in a fast-paced world. We can get many things delivered right to our door within the hour. The faster this world becomes, the less patient we become. There is one thing, however, that we cannot rush-God’s timing. Ecclesiastes 8:6 says, “For there is a time and a way for everything, although man’s trouble lies heavy on him.” When we are suffering, our prayers are urgent. We want God to swoop in and fix things right away. Unfortunately, God fixes things in His own perfect timing. While we wait, God is at work. We can count on this.

And if we are doing what is right in God’s eyes, we can rest assured that our prayers will be answered. The answer may be yes, no, or not right now. But we do know that God answers the prayers of the righteous.

James 5 talks about the prayers of the righteous person. In verse 15, he said, “The prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will restore him to health; if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” And in verse 16, he said, “Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The urgent request of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.”

The Bible also says that our sin creates a barrier between God and us, where He cannot hear our prayers in Isaiah 59:2. Psalm 66:18 says, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the LORD will not hear.”

When we are broken-hearted and crying out to God to fix the problem, it can seem like an eternity as we wait. We must, however, trust in God’s timing. We must trust that He has a reason for the delay. And most importantly, we must pray that His will be done.

One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do was wait for God to help mend my broken heart. To simply wait while He “fixed” things. I have learned, however, that I was not supposed to be simply waiting; I was supposed to be doing all He had called me to do. I was to do good, and even if I grew weary in doing going, I was to trust in Him and keep on keeping on.

Sometimes God answers our prayers right away. Sometimes it takes a while, maybe even many years, but know that while we are waiting, He is working. Trust in His timing to be perfect. Trust in Him to do what is best for us, even if we don’t know exactly what that is.

And work while you wait. Work for the Lord. Serve Him and do what He has called you to do. Romans 8:28 tells us all things work for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.

Whether it takes God an hour or many, many years to answer your prayer, just keep doing what is right. Keep loving Him and trusting in Him and His perfect timing. And never give up.

Have a great day!
