Grace Greater Than Our Sin

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.     Hebrews 4:16 NKJV

I sometimes find myself in awe of the fact that God loves me. I am amazed that He didn’t just give up on me years ago. He stood by with arms open wide while I see-sawed up and down in church and out of church. Doing right for a while and then doing it my way.

I know that He knew the exact day and time when I would grow tired of trying to have one foot in the church and one foot in the world. He knew the day and the hour when I would cry out to Him because I could no longer take my own double-minded behavior. He knew I would finally come to that point of surrender when nothing else mattered. And He already knew He would forgive me of my sin, all of my sin.

It’s hard for me to wrap my head around that kind of grace. It’s sometimes equally hard for me to give grace when someone has wronged me, but I’m getting better about that simply by knowing all God has forgiven for me.

God’s love for us and His grace is so much greater than any sin we could have ever committed, even the really big ones. Now, I know there are no big sins and no little sins there are just sins. However, we all have those sins where we wonder how God could possibly forgive us. We have all committed those sins where we basically ignored what God has instructed us to do in His Holy Word. He forgives us even for those.

It’s hard to imagine that when God created the Garden of Eden and put Adam and Eve in there, He already had a plan in place to save them from their sins. He had a plan in place to save us from our sins that we would commit thousands of years later. That plan was grace. Our pastor often uses the acronym for grace as God’s redemption at Christ’s expense.

Back in Genesis 3:15 God spoke of his plan to send His Son to earth to save us from our sins. The beautiful thing about God’s grace is it is a gift. It is freely offered. All we have to do is accept it. We can come as we are. We are told in 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It’s as simple as that.

Of course, this doesn’t mean we won’t have troubles in our life once we accept Christ as our Savior, it just means we will never face them alone. We will have His presence in our lives.

If you are thinking all is lost because you have sinned so much or committed such a big sin that God could never forgive you, think again. God loves us in spite of ourselves. Even at times when we sin and are our own worst enemy, we have a God who loves us enough to save us from our sins. We have a God who saves us by grace through faith. There’s no works or anything we can do other than accept God’s incredible gift to us.

God loves us so much that He gave His Son to die on the cross for our sins and be resurrected so that we could be forgiven. All you have to do is believe in Him and accept Him as your Savior.

His grace is greater than all our sin or even the worst sin we have ever committed. Go boldly to His throne and obtain the mercy that awaits you there. Find His grace to help you in your time of need.

Have a great day!
