See For Yourself

The Angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them.
Taste and see that the LORD is good. Happy is the man who takes refuge in Him!
You who are His holy ones, fear Yahweh, for those who fear Him lack nothing.     Psalm 34:7-9 HCSB

I often spend time sharing Scriptures with you that tell us how we should live. Many Scriptures tell us how important it is to love the Lord and obey His commands. I grew up in church, memorizing great Scriptures like John 3:16 that tells how God loves us so much that He gave His only Son to die for us so that those of us who believe in Him might have everlasting life. But until I surrendered my life and gave it all over to Him, I didn’t understand how awesome life with Him could be.

You will never know God’s goodness until you believe in Him and surrender to Him in faith. When you let it all go and put your trust in Him, then you come to realize just how awesome He truly is.

Our first verse for today tells us that the Angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him. When we fear God, we have nothing else to fear. God’s got this, no matter how big a problem this may be. It really comforts me to know that because I have a reverential awe of God, I do not need to fear because His angel is encamped around me. I am guarded by the Angel of the Lord.

Psalm 34:8 brings home what I am trying to say here. We have to see for ourselves. Just because our parents or our grandparents or our pastor or our friends tell us how great God is, we will never understand it until we see for ourselves.

And verse 9 tells us that those of us who have surrendered to Him and are His holy ones will lack nothing.

What makes this Psalm so interesting is that it is one written by David during some very perilous times. David was literally running for his life from King Saul. He had to resort to entering Philistine territory. David had killed many Philistine soldiers during the war. He pretended to be insane to avoid being captured or killed by Abimelech, who was also referred to as Achish.

When we trust in the Lord and have a reverential awe or fear of Him, it doesn’t mean our problems will all go away. It simply means He will be there to walk with us through the problems. He will be our refuge in times of trouble.

While David is in fear of his life from King Saul, he speaks of God’s goodness. He speaks of how awesome it is to be able to know that the Angel of the Lord is encamped around him. He speaks of how happy he is to be able to seek refuge in the Lord. God had promised David he would one day be king and David trusted in God and His promises.

God promises us in Galatians 6:9 if we don’t give up on doing good that we will reap at the proper time. Our lives may never be easy hear on earth. But God has promised an eternity in heaven with Him if we trust in Him and obey Him here on earth.

I could go on and on about how awesome it is to be a child of God. I could tell you of all His goodness since I have surrendered my life to Him, but you absolutely must experience it for yourself. Give God a try. Trust in Him, surrender to Him. You will be so glad you did. If you taste Him, you will see that He is good!

Have a great day!
