But to which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool?” Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation? Hebrews 1:13-14 NKJV
Tomorrow is Halloween and this is the time of the year when people focus on evil spirits. They want to be scared. My friend, I choose to focus on God’s angels and how they protect us from evil. Psalm 91:11-12 says, “For He shall give His angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways. They will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Psalm 34:7 also tells us that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him.
Because we don’t see angels, we sometimes forget they are there. I can tell you, however, that there have been times when I have found myself in a really scary situation and I know my prayers sent angels to make a way out of that situation. There are just times when you know that it could have only been God and His angels protecting you and bringing you safely out of harm’s way.
The Bible clearly tells us that God sends angels to minister to us and to watch over us. In Exodus 23:20 when God rescued the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, He told them, “Behold, I send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared.”
We are not to worship angels; worship is reserved for the Lord. In Revelation 19:10, John wrote that when he fell at the feet to worship the angel, the angel told him he must not do this because the angel is a fellow servant.
I don’t know about you, but I praise God for sending His angels or His ministering spirits to guard us in this dangerous world. And while many choose to focus on evil spirits this time of the year, I will focus on God’s angels. I know His angels beat these evil spirits all day every day and twice on Sunday. I know that I need not have any fear because if things get too bad down here, His angels will bring me home.
For Halloween I choose to celebrate the ministering spirits that conquer evil rather than the evil spirits that are doomed.
There are some really good books about angels that I highly recommend. Frank Paretti wrote a fictional trilogy, This Present Darkness, Piercing the Darkness, and the Prophet. I have read the first two and couldn’t put them down. They tell a fictional story about the battle that goes on all around us between good and evil.
Dr. David Jeremiah wrote a non-fictional book titled Angels which tells us what the Bible says about who angels are and how they help us. He also wrote a book called Spiritual Warfare.
It’s important to realize that there is a continual war going on between good and evil. We don’t think about it because we never see it. The devil wants your soul. And he will stop at nothing to get it. He has his minions all around and people working for him, just as God has His angels and people working for Him.
We must understand that this protection is only guaranteed to God’s children. And not everyone is a child of God. We are told in John 1:12 that we must receive Him and believe in Him in order to be called a child of God.
This time of year, many people like to be scared and experience that adrenaline rush. But don’t forget about the loving God who sends his angels as ministering spirits for those who believe in Him.
Remember that there is a spiritual battle going on all around us and angels are fighting continually to protect you from it.
If you want to be scared and focus on Halloween and evil, scary things, you go right ahead. But as for me, I choose to focus on my Lord and Savior who sends angels to protect me from the evil.
