And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God. John 3:19-21 NKJV
When we have a power outage during the night, we are in darkness. In the absence of a stand-by whole-house generator, we may have to spend some time in the dark before obtaining a source of light. I don’t know many people who would choose to stay in the dark and not even light a candle. Most of us at least want to see where we are going.
When we live in spiritual darkness, we are also facing a power outage. It’s not because we suffer from a lack of power; it’s because we choose to stay in the dark. God’s power is there; we simply have to believe in Jesus and accept Him as our Savior. We have to turn to Him and trust in Him and commit our lives to Him. Sadly, we may reject Him.
In John 1:9, John, the apostle, spoke of how John the Baptist bore witness to Jesus Christ. He referred to Jesus as the true light or that light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
The problem with loving the darkness is that we reject the light. When we choose to stay in darkness, we remain in moral and spiritual darkness. We desire a continuation of our evil deeds more than we desire a loving relationship with our Lord and Savior.
Are you loving darkness so much that you choose it over Jesus? If so, there are a few things you need to know. Just because you choose to live in moral and spiritual darkness does not mean that your sins are hidden. We spoke recently about how our sins are always exposed. And, of course, we know that nothing we say, do, think, or feel is hidden from God. We will be judged for our sins.
Living in spiritual darkness here on earth will cause us to face an eternity in hell. In 2 Thessalonians 1:9, we are told that they will suffer eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might. We will no longer have access to Jesus and His power.
We are told in Matthew 13:50 that they will be thrown into a fiery furnace, and in that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. And Revelation 14:11 says the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest day or night.
Maybe you used to love the dark but have come into the light. When this happens, it is easy for us to become frustrated with those who love the dark. We may witness to them and have a hard time understanding why they prefer the dark. We must remember there was a time in our lives when we, too, loved the darkness. Remember to pray for them and continue trying to point them toward the light.
Have a great day!
