Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:6
It seems pretty simple, right? If you find yourself starting to worry, you can just pray to God with a thankful heart and let Him know what you need. This is what the Bible tells us. So, first let’s break this down a bit.
Here, Paul is telling the church at Phillipi that they should not worry. Jesus said in Matthew 6:27, “Can any of you add a single cubit (which is about 18 inches) to his height by worrying?” And He tells us in Matthew 6:33 that instead of worrying, we should seek first the kingdom of God and God will provide all we need.
We may all experience times of great anxiety and may even need medical attention, but just be sure that we first turn to our Great Healer Jesus Christ.
Paul mentions that in all things through prayer and petition with thanksgiving we should let our requests be known to God. It’s important that we are thankful for the good things in our life. We must be thankful for the blessings. Often, when we worry, we forget about all the good things God has provided for us and done for us.
The Israelites got into trouble time and time again because they forgot about all the good things God had done for them. Instead, they focused on what they were lacking and grumbled and complained. God provided all they ever needed. He gave them water from a rock, He rained manna down from heaven, and He saw to it that in those 40 years their shoes and clothes never wore out.
He will do the same for us today.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 tells us that in these end times, we will face difficult times for people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to the form of godliness but denying its power. And he ends in verse 5 by telling us to avoid these people.
This is our warning that things will continue to get worse until the rapture comes. So, should that worry us and cause us to be frightened? No. It should cause us to do all we can to strengthen our faith. Pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:17) study God’s word so you will have insight to these things that will happen. It will tell us of God’s great love for us and his promise of protection to those who choose to be His children. It will let us know that He will always be there with us and we can count on Him. And there are wonderful verses of assurance like Romans 8:28 that tells us how all things work for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
As someone who suffers from anxiety, I can tell you that once I rededicated my life to the Lord and learned to trust in Him, it did a lot to help with my anxiety. It also helps to know that I am never alone. There is someone who loves me so much that He died for me so that I might have eternal life. And best of all I know that when I face something fearful, He is there for me. He will fight for me.
I know as times become more and more difficult, and the Bible tells us they will, I can trust in Him. I can surrender my life to Him and give Him my all, even my troubles and my anxiety. I can trust Him to take good care of me.
If you find yourself worrying, give it over to God. Whatever problem you have, He is bigger and stronger than that problem at hand. When you give it to God, let it go. He doesn’t need your help. He’s got this and He’s got you if you will only trust Him.
Have a great day!
