“For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’
Deuteronomy 30:12 NKJV
“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil,” Deuteronomy 30:15 NKJV.
Our Scripture passage comes from Moses’ farewell speech to the Israelite nation. This is just as relevant for us today as it was for the Israelites back in that time. We must also decide today.
Just like the Israelites, we have life and good as well as death and evil before us today. We must choose which we want. Tomorrow may be too late.
When God calls us home to heaven, it will be too late to make a choice. Our time of choosing will be over. We have to decide here and now.
So, what will it be? Do you choose life and good or death and evil? This isn’t a question that you can simply answer verbally because it’s our actions that really give God our answer. Either we seek Him, love Him, and serve Him with our whole heart, or we don’t.
As Moses told the Israelites, it’s no great mystery; it’s a simple matter of choosing to live our lives in obedience to the Lord or to disobey and behave wickedly and choose hell as our eternal resting place.
It seems like a no-brainer, I know, but I can tell you from personal experience that sometimes it’s a hard choice. There are many temptations in life designed to throw us off balance. The devil likes to tempt us and hopes to turn us away from God. If he succeeds in this, it’s hard to get back on that narrow road.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and few find it.”
While the choice seems simple, the road we take to follow that choice may be rocky and narrow. But when we make the choice of life and good, we are choosing to have God with us every step of the way. We are choosing to live a life with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are choosing to pick up our cross and follow Him. We are choosing to do our best to imitate Him to bring God glory and praise in all we do.
Today, right this minute, you can choose. Your time here on earth is not guaranteed, so I beg of you to choose now and choose wisely. Repent of your sin, surrender your life to Christ, and follow Him along that narrow pathway and get through that narrow gate.
Have a great day!
