Who Is He to You?

“But you,” He asked them, “who do you say I am?”     Matthew 16:15 HCSB

Yesterday we discussed Matthew 7:22 which says, “On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord’ didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?” We know that many people call Jesus Lord. Do you?

Today, I want you to think about who He is to you? Is he your 911 call when things get really bad? Is he the Lord of your life? Do you put Him first before everyone and everything in your life? Is He a casual acquaintance that you think about sometimes but have never really taken the time to get to know Him?

When Jesus began His ministry, there was some confusion among the Jewish teachers about who He was. Some believed He was the Messiah while others believed He was some splendid, political king. In our Scripture passage today, Jesus asks His disciples who they believe He is.

Peter answers in verse 16, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!” In verse 17 Jesus tells Simon Peter he is blessed because this was not revealed to him through his own investigation but by God the Father.

Who Jesus is to you will depend on the relationship you have with God the Father. A relationship with God the Father will reveal our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to us. When we get to know our heavenly Father, we come to understand this great love He has for us. A love so great that He sent His one and only Son to die on the cross so that His blood might save us and cleanse us from our sins. It’s hard to comprehend such a great love. The only way we can do so is through entering a close, personal relationship with Him. We do this through prayer and Bible study.

Most of us would not expect a total stranger to allow us into their home, but we mistakenly think we can have no relationship with God or Jesus and be welcomed into heaven. It doesn’t work that way. We not only have to be in close relationship with Him, but we also have to put Him first.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.” Once we put Jesus first in our lives, everything else will fall into its proper place.

So, again I ask, “Who is He to you?” If he’s that casual acquaintance you think about every now and then, you might want to rethink that.” This life here on earth is temporary. It’s very short compared to eternity.

Who He is to you will determine your final destination. If you want to spend eternity in His home, get into a good, solid, close relationship with Him today. Trust in Him and surrender your life to Him. Put Him above everyone and everything in your life. Know if you do this and it feels as though things are falling apart, it’s just God seeing to it that they fall into the proper place. Give it all over to Him, He’s got this.

Is he your Lord and your Savior? If so, does your life reflect this? Please give this some serious thought before it’s too late.

Have a great day!
