The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2 HCSB
Many people watch the news and weather reports and I’m not knocking you if you do. I quit doing this years ago, however, because of the hype. There’s something about these reporters and forecasters who talk about severe tragedies or impending tragedies with an excitement in their voice and a gleam in their eye. I guess they love their jobs, and you can’t fault them for that.
If you pay careful attention to newsfeeds, reporters, and social media, it can be really scary. I truly believe many of the things we are experiencing are today is bringing us closer and closer to the rapture. I used to not read Revelation because I thought it was scary. I’ve come to realize, however, that being taken in the rapture will bring us into our heavenly home with the Lord. That’s not scary at all.
News reports typically report negativity and tragic events that have occurred in our nation and around the world. It is so rare that they report anything good. If we experienced worldwide revival, I wonder if they would even report it.
Weather forecasters stir up a lot of hype when they are reporting a weather system that could be potentially catastrophic.
There are scammers in our emails and our text messages. They seek to obtain money from us simply through their tech savvy means. They provide nothing but heartaches in return.
Crime rates are up in local areas. Between the poor economy and drug use rising it’s dangerous to venture out of our homes and dangerous to stay in.
But praise God, we have a safe place. When the world gets too scary, we have a rock and a refuge. We can hide in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior. Psalm 91 is one of my favorite Psalms. When the world gets scary, I like to read this Psalm. It brings me comfort. It goes on to list all the ways in which God protects us.
I am comforted in knowing that because I have chosen to dwell in the place of the Most High, I can rest secure in the shadow of the Almighty God. I feel safe knowing He is my rock and my refuge, My God in whom I can trust.
When the world gets scary, where do you go? Do you go to listen to more news reports, hoping it will change? Do you seek something else or someone else for comfort and to give you peace and hope? I used to do that too. I used to think that things or people could give me comfort and peace.
I have come to discover, however, that no one can give me the peace I have found in my Lord. No one can make me feel as secure as He can. So, when I don’t listen to news reports or weather reports, I’m not sticking my head in the sand or trying to ignore the world around me. I am simply trusting in my Savior. I know with Him all things are possible (Luke 1:37).
I also know that all things work for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). If you pay close attention to Psalm 91:1-2 and Romans 8:28, you’ll see you have to do your part. Psalm 91:1 tells us we must choose to dwell under the protection of the Most High. Romans 8:28 promises God will work all things out for the good of those who love the Lord and are doing what He has called them to do.
I do my best to remain in God’s shelter. I do my best to love the Lord with all my heart and do what He has called me to do. When I do this, I know I can trust in Him to do the rest. When I remind myself, He has complete control, it’s not so scary after all.
Have a great day!
