Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31
Sometimes I write blogs for myself and hope they will benefit you as well. This is one of those days. I often encourage you to do live out verses like Proverbs 3:5-6 which tells us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding but acknowledge Him in all our ways and He will direct our paths. I tell you to give it all over to God, experience His peace, and focus on all that is good as we are told to do in Philippians 4:6-8.
I remind you that all things work for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose as Paul tells us in Romans 8:28.
While these are all good verses, I have found recently that I don’t always do as I encourage you to do. The truth hurts.
For me, one of the worst things is to see someone I love suffering. And I’ve come to realize that I want things to get better fast. I want healing for that person, comfort for the family, and rest for those who have grown wearing in the waiting. Sadly, I am more like those Israelites that wandered around the desert for 40 years trying to make a two week trip.
I’ve been trying to focus on the truths that we read in our Scripture passage for today. I first must realize that God is greater than any problem we will ever face. In Warren Wiersbe’s commentary, he said, “God knows how we feel and how we fear.” Fear comes easy, it’s the faith that isn’t always so easy. When we try to be strong in our own power, we will fail every time. We don’t have the strength it takes to obey God, but we can lean on His strength. Warren Wiersebe also points out that we can look to God for all that we need and we can do this by meditating on His character and His promises praying and seeking to glorify Him.
I’ve learned that my impatience doesn’t speed up His timing. When we wait on the Lord it means we trust in Him and His ways and His timing. It means that we seek for His will to be done.
We are promised that our strength will be renewed when we wait for Him. When we go through a crisis, it can mentally and physically exhaust us. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 that all who are weary can come to Him. Our strength is “renewed” when exchange or take off our old clothing of fear and exchange it by putting on our new clothing of faith. We can exchange our weakness for His power.
And lastly Warren Wierse said, “As we trust in God, He enables us to soar during a crisis, to run when the challenges are many, and to walk faithfully in the routine day-to-day demands of life. Walking in the ordinary pressures of life can be much more difficult than flying like an eagle in a time of crisis.”
If you are walking and you are weary, consider how you are walking. Are you walking by faith or by sight? This past week, I have at times struggled not to walk by sight. I have had to apologize to God many times for being weary or worried. I’ve had to apologize for not accepting who He is and what He can do under His mighty power.
If you want to soar like an eagle when the going gets tough, just trust in Him. He is there to give you wings. When you have no strength left, He will give you strength to fly.
Have a great day!
