Reflecting God’s Glory

Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the Testimony were in Moses’ hand when he came down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with them. So Aaron and all the children of Israel saw, Moses, behold the skin of his face shown, and they were afraid to come near him.      Exodus 34:29-30 NKJV

Moses had spent eighty days on Mount Sinai with God. He had spent 40 days and brought back the two Stone Tablets of the Ten Commandments. When he returned, however, the people had built a golden calf and were worshiping it and Moses became so upset he broke the tablets.

In God’s anger God had refused to continue on with the Israelites, but Moses intervened, and God agreed to continue on with them. Then Moses asked God to show him His glory and God gave him a glimpse of his back. Then Moses returned to Mount Sinai with new stone tablets for another 40 days. For the second time, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. He also renewed His covenant with His people.

Moses did not realize his face was shining when he returned from Mount Sinai but when the people saw it, they were afraid to come near him.

Paul spoke of a spiritual transformation we undergo when we draw closer to God through studying His word. When we study God’s word, we learn of God’s great glory. We can reflect that glory for others to see. Our faces may not shine, but if you study God’s word and draw closer to Him through Bible study and prayer it will show. It will be obvious to those around you.

Paul spoke of this in 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 when he said, “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Warren Weirsbe put it this way in his commentary, “This is why Christians read the Bible and meditate on it, because when the child of God looks into the Word of God and sees the Son of God, he or she is transformed by the Spirit of God into the image of God for the glory of God.

God’s glory is the most important thing to us as Christians. All we say and do should be with the goal of bringing God glory, honor and praise. When we study God’s word, we undergo a spiritual transformation which allows us to reflect God’s glory.

We will either reflect the glory of God in our lives, or we will show the devil’s influence. There is no middle ground, my friend. The things we say and do will show those around us who has first place in our lives.

If we devote ourselves to prayer and Bible study and stay in close communication with God, our lives with show a spiritual transformation. It will show that we are children of God and devoted to Him.

If we ignore God, the devil will have his way in our lives. We must choose.

I pray you choose wisely and reflect God’s glory in your life.

Have a great day!
