Comfortably Consistent

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.     Hebrews 13:8 HCSB

We live in an ever-changing world, and with AI and all these new technological advances, I can’t help but wonder if all these changes are good.

As I drove home yesterday, I passed by some homes in our area. Many of my childhood friends grew up in these homes. Now they were inhabited by their aging parents. Or in some cases, their parents have passed on. Some of these homes have been sold, and in some cases, people have moved back into their parents’ homes. I passed one house where a friend used to live, who died of COVID in 2020.

Sadly, I lost several friends to COVID. It’s never a good change to lose a loved one.

On the flip side of that, we are about to welcome a grandson into our family. We are excited about this change. We can’t wait to have him and his big sister over for sleepovers with Maw-Maw and Poppa.

As we journey through life on Earth, we will face many changes, some of which are good and some are bad. But one thing that will never change is Jesus. Jesus will always love us no matter what we do. He gives us the choice to accept or reject Him. His love is unconditional.

If we accept Him as our Savior and surrender our lives to Him, He will walk us through those changes that hurt our hearts. He will be there with us through the good times and the bad. And best of all, He will never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6, Hebrews 13:5).

As we go through this life, we will encounter many different types of people. But it really boils down to two kinds of friends and family members. We will have those who support us and are loyal to us. We will have those we can count on when times get tough. And there will be those who will betray us.

People will let us down, but God is consistent. Jesus never changes, and we can take comfort in that fact. We can take comfort that He is always there for us. We can take comfort in His promises of protection in Psalm 91. We can take comfort in His promise to help us in times when we are being tempted in 1 Corinthians 10:13. And we can take comfort in the fact that this unpredictable and often volatile world is temporary. He has gone ahead to prepare a place for us in His Father’s house in John 14:2-6.

And we know from John 14:6 that He is the only way to the Father and that not one of us can get to heaven without Jesus.

We can take comfort in surrendering to Him. We can take comfort in serving Him. We can take comfort in the fact that He never changes. He will always love us. He will never leave us nor forsake us.

Can he say the same of you? I have had times in my life where I have been very inconsistent in my prayer, Bible study, and praise and worship. God couldn’t count on me so much. If you are experiencing this in your life, you can turn to Him. You can pray for Him to give you strength and help you to increase your faith. You can surrender to Him and take comfort in His mercy and His grace.

Lamentations 3:22-23 says, “Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions never fail. They are new every morning: Great is your faithfulness.” He is faithful; we can count on Him.

He will not betray us. He will bring comfortable consistency to our lives because He never changes. His love is steadfast. We can trust in Him.

Have a great day!
