And We Wait…

But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.     Isaiah 40:31 NKJV

There are different kinds of waiting. There is waiting with great anticipation like a kid on Christmas morning. Or like a couple waiting to meet their new baby.

Then there is the waiting with dread like maybe a dental procedure.

And then there is just your average waiting like waiting in line or waiting at a red light. According to citizendailyposts.com the average person will spend 3-5 years of their life in combined waiting such as waiting for doctor’s visits, waiting in line, etc.

Unoccupied waiting is much worse because you aren’t able to do anything but wait. This is what makes our smart phones such a great invention. When you are waiting for a doctor, you can play a game, text, check emails and occupy your mind.

Our Scripture passage talks about waiting on the LORD. This is something we will spend our lifetimes doing when we pray for something or when we work toward a goal or when we are learning. This should be the type of waiting with great anticipation like a kid on Christmas morning. Waiting on the Lord should never be unoccupied time, because we can serve the Lord while we wait.

If you are growing weary waiting on the Lord, you are doing it all wrong. We shouldn’t ask God for something and then just sit around waiting for it. We should be busy serving Him. We should be busy spending time in prayer and Bible study. He might just give us the answer we were looking for in our Bible study.

For many years the world awaited the coming Messiah. Sadly, many didn’t even realize Jesus was the Messiah. After waiting all that time, they failed to recognize Him as the Son of God. Even though they had a front row seat to His teaching and the many miracles he performed, they still rejected Him.

Of course, this was all a part of God’s plan for Jesus to be tortured, crucified and buried and rise on the third day to provide salvation for all who believe in Him.

And now we await His return. We should stay busy serving Him while we wait. We should not grow weary. We are told in Galatians 6:9 that we should not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Our Scripture passage tells us that waiting on the Lord will renew our strength and we shall mount up as eagles and run and not be weary and walk and not faint.

We don’t know when we will be called home or when the rapture will occur, but we do know that we can accept Christ as our Savior right here and right now. We can draw near to the Lord and He will draw near to us as we are told in James 4:8. He can call us to salvation, and we can accept His call.

The wait doesn’t have to be unbearable; it can actually be a good thing because we can learn and grow while we wait. We can develop a closer relationship with our Lord and Savior.

We wait on many things in our lifetime but are you truly waiting on the Lord? Are you prepared for the time when the wait is finally over?

If you haven’t surrendered your life to Christ, then what are you waiting for? He’s waiting for you with outstretched arms. Don’t delay.

Have a great day!
