But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
Matthew 6:33 HCSB
I know I often refer to this verse, but I want to ensure you understand its proper context. Jesus is speaking about how we needlessly worry about what we will eat and what we will wear. He talks about how God takes care of the plants and the animals and will take even better care of us. He tells them that their heavenly Father knows they need these things.
When Jesus says to seek first the kingdom of God, it is because He knows that God takes care of His children and provides for them.
I was recently watching a video of my 18-month-old granddaughter at daycare. They were praying before their meal. The teacher led them in the prayer that many of us were probably taught to pray as young children, which says, “God is great. God is good. Let us thank Him for our food. By His hands we are all fed. Give us, Lord, our daily bread.”
One of the biggest problems the Israelites faced was that they complained about what God provided. God provided manna, and they complained. God may not always provide exactly what we want, but He will take good care of us. We can be assured that He will always provide what we need.
In Psalm 23:1, David said the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.
In Philippians 4, Paul spoke of the provision of God. In verse 19, he said, “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
We serve a loving God. We serve a good Father who wants to take good care of His children. God wants to adopt us into His family and care for us. But He never forces His goodness on us. He offers it as a gift, but we must accept it. We must choose to seek Him. And most importantly, we must seek Him first. We must put Him first and above all people and things in our lives. God must come even before our family.
When we seek God and put Him first, He provides all we need. He may not give us exactly what we want, but we can rest assured, He will give us just what we need.
We must seek God, put Him first in our lives, and believe in Him. We are told in Hebrews 11:6, without faith it is impossible to please God. God wants us to trust in Him, just as He wanted the Israelites to trust in Him.
Seek the Lord with all your heart. Deuteronomy 4:29 says, “And after that, you will find me if you seek Me with all your heart and all your soul.” Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” And Psalm 119:10 says, “With my whole heart I seek you; let me now wander far from your commandments.”
We must remember that everything we have, God has provided. If you have
Seek the Lord with all your heart, put Him first in your life, obey Him, and He will take good care of you. It’s that simple.
Have a great day!
