Without Order There Is Chaos

So don’t worry saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the idolaters eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be provided for you.
Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.  Matthew 6:31-34 HCSB

If you ask my husband, he will tell you that I am OCD or suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder when it comes to certain things. I don’t agree with that statement, but I will admit that I like order and I like certain things done in what I consider to be a proper order. I think that doing things in order just makes sense. If you think about it, most things we do require a certain order to be done properly.

For example, you sweep a floor before you mop it. You build a foundation for a building before you start framing. When primer is needed, you put it on before painting a surface. See where I’m going here? If you don’t do these things in proper order what you end up with is a big mess.

Our lives are the same way. When we don’t put God first in our lives, we get a big mess. For many years, my life was chaotic because I had allowed it to get out of order and it was without balance. I was giving too much thought and consideration to me and God was falling down the list. He would be first for a while and I would have order and harmony. But then other things would push Him down the list and take His place at the top, which would lead to chaos and all kinds of disorder. We are told in James 3:16 that where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. When God was not first in my life, things were out of order. When things got out of order, my life became chaotic and out of control. We are not meant to put ourselves first, we are meant to put God first.

I don’t care how much money you have or how many friends you have (either real or on social media), you will never have enough in your life if you don’t put God first. If you put God first, He will see to it that you have everything you need. When we worry about our future, we waste time that could be spent doing something constructive, like serving the Lord.

If you have fear and anxiety in your life and things seem to be beyond your control, know that we serve a God of order, not a God of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). Know that with Him in first place in our lives, we have no need to worry. We just need to focus on Him. He needs to be first in all we do, like how we treat others and speak to others. He will take care of everything else for us.

The other thing about disorder and chaos is that it is exhausting. I was literally exhausted from trying to live a life that had no order to it, only confusion. When I cried out to God for help, He destroyed the problems in my life and brought everything into proper order. Once this was done, I could rest. I was able to take up His yoke and learn from Him and I learned that His yoke is indeed easy and His burden is indeed light (Matthew 11:28-30).

If you have worry, fear and anxiety in your life for whatever reason, know that it doesn’t need to be there. Know that if you just put God first and love Him with all your heart and serve Him, He will take care of everything you need. Oh, and if you are thinking that your problem is too big for God, don’t be silly. This is the same God that parted the Red Sea so His people could walk through on dry land (Exodus 14:15-31). Our God has shut the mouths of lions (Daniel 6:10-24). Our God has allowed his people to walk through fire unharmed (Daniel 3:8-30). He has loved us so much that He sent His son to die for us so that we may have eternal life (John 3:16). There is nothing He can’t do (Matthew 19:36, Luke 1:37).

Give it all over to God. He’s got this. He can put an end to your fear, anxiety and frustration. He can bring order to the chaos that has become your life. I know. I’ve been there, done that and got the t-shirt. He will do the same for you. Put Him first and trust Him to take care of everything else.

Have a great weekend!
