By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
Hebrews 11:7 NKJV
Once again those of us here in southeast Louisiana are under a hurricane warning. Hurricane Delta is predicted to come ashore either Friday or Saturday as a category 4 storm. I can assure you that there are plenty of people who are making preparations by doing things like buying bottled water, non perishable food items, emergency candles and batteries. Those that have portable generators will be buying gas to be sure that they can keep them going. Those of us who lived through Katrina have had ample opportunity to learn what needs to be done to prepare. But there will also be a number of people who are saying, Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler, or let the good times roll. They will see this as yet another opportunity for a drunk fest.
We are told in Genesis 6:5-8 that God saw how wicked man had become and how every intent and thought of his heart was evil and God was sorry that He had made man. God then decided to destroy all men, but Noah was found to be righteous and God spared Noah and his family. God let Noah know that He was going to destroy the earth and all mankind by flood. Noah took God at His word and began building the ark as God instructed. Noah began preparing for the flood God told him would be coming. God was the architect and Noah was the builder. He built the ark to God’s specifications. A cubit is said to be roughly 18 inches so this would make the ark 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. This wasn’t some little dinghy that Noah constructed in his shed or the back yard. I am sure that something this big got people’s attention. I am sure that people asked Noah what in the world he was doing building such a big boat? I am sure they wanted to know what he intended to do with this ark? I am sure that Noah must have been truthful with them. I am also sure that the partiers kept on partying. The evil stayed in their wicked ways. These people were swept up in the flood. They must have seen Noah preparing, but chose not to turn to God. They chose not to see what all the fuss was about. They chose to keep living as they had been.
The thing about hurricanes is that we are always warned. While forecasters may not know exactly where they are going, they do their best to predict what only God can truly know. They have gotten pretty good at giving us a 24 hour window of when they will strike. We are warned. We have an opportunity to prepare for the worst and pray for the best.
The Bible warns us that we are not going to live forever here on planet earth. Hebrews 9:27 tells us that it is appointed for men to die once. We know that storms of life are coming our way. We must be prepared. The best way to prepare is by being in close relationship with our Lord and Savior.
If you are living life thinking you have plenty of time, know this, no one knows how much time they have. We must be prepared. Get into a close relationship with Jesus. Trust in Him. Get into a good bible teaching church and bible studies and worship with others who are wholeheartedly seeking the Lord and doing their best to obey His commands.
It’s coming, you’ve been warned. I pray that you act wisely.
Have a great day!
