Be gracious to me, God, for man tramples me; he fights and oppresses me all day long. My adversaries trample me all day, for many fight arrogantly against me.
When I am afraid, I will trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise. In God I trust; I will not fear what can man do to me? Psalm 56:1-4 HCSB
I have wasted what would probably amount to years of my life being mad at people. Someone would do me wrong and I would be mad. I would vow to never speak to them again. Or perhaps I would decide that I would show them and retaliate by doing something that would anger them.
I’ve often heard it said that when you are mad at someone you give them the power. They control you. They have gone on about their business and forgotten all about you. But you sit there, and you harbor that anger and resentment. It can affect your relationships, it can rob you of your joy, it can even affect your health.
If you read our Scripture passage today, you may understand why I pose the question as to why you waste your time being mad at that person? Men and women are not trustworthy. We are sinful creatures. We are told in Romans 3:23 that we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. When man lets you down and betrays you that is just man or woman doing what human beings do. Perhaps you have sinned once or twice in your life and let God down. Don’t you hope he’s not holding on to any anger and resentment directed at you?
When we are in a close relationship with God, we can bounce back from this much more quickly than those who are not in close relationship with Him. If we trust God and put Him first in our lives, what does it matter what others do to us? Paul asks in Romans 8:31 if God is for us who can be against us. Matthew 10:28 tells us not to fear the one who can kill the body but not the soul, but to fear God who can kill both body and soul.
Simply put, it is a waste of time to harbor anger and resentment towards another human being. They will have to answer to God for what they have done to you. I can assure you if they don’t get right with Him, it will be way for worse for them than anything you have planned.
It’s human nature for us to get mad when people do us wrong or do something wrong to someone we love. But if we focus on God and not our anger, we will be much better off. We are told in Romans 12:19 that vengeance is God’s job not ours and we are to leave that whole revenge thing up to God. Because we must remember we serve a God of justice.
Trust in God and forget about those who have wronged you and move on. Let it go and let God heal the hurt and deal with the revenge.
Have a great day!
