Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge. Selah Psalms 62:8 HCSB
You may have heard the phrase, let go and let God. That sounds great, doesn’t it. Just let God handle your problems and your cares. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to cast all our cares on God because He cares for us. That sounds awesome doesn’t it. Just take anything that may bother you and give it to God. Philippians 4:6 tells us not to worry about anything but to bring everything to God in prayer with thanksgiving. We are told that if we do this we will have a peace that passes understanding. Proverbs 3:5 tells us to Trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding. Exodus 14:14 says The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.
Now I could go on listing scripture after scripture that clearly tells us to let go and let God handle the problems in our lives. The bible is very clear on one thing, we are not to worry. So why do we? The pharmaceutical companies are making a fortune on anti-anxiety medications. In addition they are wracking up on medications that treat symptoms of anxiety such as heartburn, indigestion, obesity, migraine headaches, and the list goes on and on. If we could just do what God tells us to do over and over in the bible and let it all go.
So why is that so hard? Well a lot of us are fixers. We believe that we know the best way to fix the problem. We feel weak if we turn to someone else. But the biggest problem is that we can’t let go because that means that we give up control. Even those of us that don’t consider ourselves to be control freaks by any stretch of the imagination will hold on to a problem thinking that it makes us weak to turn to someone for help, even God. And then, what about when we let go but God isn’t handling it the way we would like for it to be handled? Well, Romans 8:28 tells us that all things work for the good of those that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. Jeremiah 29:11 says that the Lord tells us that He has good plans for us. He plans to do good for us and not bring harm or evil to us. But first, we have to let go.
I learned a few years back that God is not about to play tug of war with me. He is not about to allow me to ride shotgun while he handles my problems. You see, He wants me to suit up for battle but stand still. This is where the problem comes in. It is so hard to stand still when calamity seems to be striking all around us. But have no fear, we are told in Psalm 91:7-8 that though ten thousand may fall at our side and ten thousand at our right hand that it will not come near us. We will only see the destruction of the wicked. Throughout the bible God promises that He’s got this. He assures us that we can let it go and let Him handle it. For me that used to be really hard when the stakes were really big. But, I have learned that the bigger the problem, the better off I am to let God have it. You see, He not only knows what my future holds, but He knows what is best for me. He wants what is best for me. He can work all that out, if I am only willing to let it go.
Several years back, I found myself in an all out battle of good vs. evil. The devil kept tempting me with things that I could do to shut this battle down. I wanted to end it, because as you know, these types of battles are exhausting. I had to let God handle it. Every time that I would try something on my own, God would let go and it would be a mess. I learned very quickly that I had to give it ALL to God. I had to trust in Him completely. He worked it all out.
God is a wonderful problem solver, but He won’t help if you are not willing to let go. Lift it up to Him, let Him take it and watch Him work it out. I know it all sounds too simple to be true, but trust me, I’ve been there, done that and got the t-shirt. I encourage you to do the same. Whatever problem you are facing this morning, give it to God. Whether it is small or big, just turn it over to Him. The bible tells us to cast all our care on Him. We are not to sort through our problems and pick and choose, we are to give it all to God.
There are times when I still catch myself trying to do God’s job, but praise God I am learning to just let Him handle it. I pray that you will do the same. The bible tells us in Philippians 4:8-9 that we are to focus on the good things. When we give the other stuff to God, this is much easier. Don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself. You will be so glad you did!
Have a great day!
