Why Are We Here?

For we are His creation, created in Christ for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.  Ephesians 2:10 HCSB

What are you working on in your life right now? Are you a student striving for a certain degree? Are you a man or woman looking for a spouse? Are you a couple hoping to start a family? Are you in business and striving to get higher up on the ladder? Are you close to retirement?

As human beings we are always working toward something, but I ask you today how much of what you are doing honors God? Is what you are working toward something that He Himself has called you to do?

In Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 we are told that the whole duty of man is to fear God and keep His commandments for God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil. So how does what you are working on stand up to that? 2 Timothy 1:9 said that God not only saved us but called us to a holy calling. It says that He saved us not because of our works, but because of His own purpose and grace, which He gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began. Ephesians 1:11 says that in Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.

In Jeremiah 1:5, God told Jeremiah that before He formed him in the womb, He consecrated him and appointed him a prophet to the nations. This tells us that before we are even a twinkle in our parent’s eyes, God has a purpose and  a plan for our lives.

Romans 8:28 tells us that all things work for the good to those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. Proverbs 19:21 tells us that many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.

We all have to do things like work to make a living and to support our families, but we also have a God given purpose. If you are not in a close relationship with God, you may never know why He created you. Proverbs 20:5 tells us that the purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but understanding will draw it out. When we enter into a close relationship with our Lord and Savior, He makes our purpose here on planet earth very clear to us. He gives us spiritual gifts and supplies all that we need to fulfill that purpose.

We are not here by accident, Psalm 139 13-14 tells us that we were knit together by God in our mother’s womb. The psalmist praises God in verse 14 because he was fearfully and wonderfully made. If you are working hard to fulfill your goals in life, you need to praise God for giving you the knowledge and the ability to do that. You should also work and do everything you do whether it is on your job, raising your children or working in your yard to the glory of God.  (1 Corinthians 10:31). We should honor God in the way we talk and the way we treat others. Our purpose on earth is all about bringing God honor, and glory and praise. How are you doing with that?

When we love the Lord, we enter into a close relationship with Him through Bible study and prayer. When we are in close relationship with Him, He makes His plans for our life very clear to us. So, I ask you do you know why you are here? God may bless you with a good job, a nice home and a beautiful family, but that’s not why you are here. You are here to serve Him. You are here to do what He has created you to do. If you want good things in your life, seek God first and do His will and He will supply your every need and give you good things (Matthew 6:33). We are put here to be in close fellowship with God.

Our scripture passage says that we were created for good works which God prepared beforehand so that we might walk in them. My friend if you are not walking in the good works that God has created for you, you are lost. Turn to Him today and ask Him to put you on the right path. Walk with Him, Micah 6:8 tells us that the Lord requires us to seek justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. Are you doing that?

Proverbs 16:9 tells us that a man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. When we walk with the Lord, He will make our purpose very clear.  We were made to serve Him. He has a specific job for you, find out what that job is and get busy. I promise you, you will be so glad you did.

Have a great day!
