For I, Yahweh your God, hold your right hand and say to you: Do not fear, I will help you. Isaiah 41:13 HCSB
Isaiah 41 is titled, “The LORD versus the Nations’ gods” in my Bible. In this chapter God tells the Israelites how He will help them and verse one ends saying, “let us come together for the trial.” With the promise of prices rising through the roof on everything from vegetables to vehicles, we are certainly in a time of trial.
I want you to think about whose hand you hold onto in a time of trial.
I thank God for our beautiful granddaughter. As she approaches her first birthday, she is facing the usual trials a child of this age faces. The two main trials she faces now are talking and walking. She is trying to walk, and she is so close.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of holding her hand while she took several steps across the living room. We hold hands for a number of reasons. With children we hold their hands not only out of love but to keep them safe. We hold their hands to steady them when they are learning to take those first few steps. We hold their hands to keep them from darting out into traffic when we are out and about with them.
As we grow older, we hold hands as a sign of love and affection. When our children reach the age of “dating” or whatever they call it these days we often think no one is worthy of holding their hand.
We are certainly not worthy of holding God’s hand, but He loves us unconditionally. He is glad to hold our hand if we will only let Him.
Many people foolishly think they are independent or self-made, but this is impossible. We were created by God the Father. Everything we have was given to us by Him, but that’s a whole other blog.
What I’m trying to say is whether you realize it or not, you are holding someone’s hand. We either hold hands with the devil or with our Creator. Think about that for a minute. Wouldn’t it just make more sense to hold the hand of your Creator. Your Creator would not want to destroy you because He created you. Your Creator knows all about you because He created you.
The devil on the other hand wants to be just like our Creator. He often tries to mimic our Creator. This is why we must be careful to stay in a close relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 10:27-28, “My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish-ever! No one will snatch them out of My hand.”
One of the most terrifying things I could imagine would be to see my granddaughter walking along holding the hand of a stranger. We warn our children about stranger danger, but we often fail to see the danger of walking hand in hand with the devil. He is a liar. He deceives us. This is why we often read in the Bible, “Do not be deceived.”
When we hold someone’s hand we walk with them, we have a connection. Whose hand are you holding today?
When we put ourselves in God’s hands, the devil can’t take us away. God will take good care of us. He will help us, and He will protect us with His mighty righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10 says, “Do not fear, for I am with you: do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you: I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.”
I pray that you have put your hand in the hand of the One who loves you like no other. He will take good care of you, and you will have nothing to fear.
Have a great day!
