“Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge Me before men, I will also acknowledge Him before My Father in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven. Don’t assume that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” Matthew 10:32-34 HCSB
More and more these days we are seeing things that the Bible says is an abomination before the Lord being accepted and we are being told that we are to accept these things and the people who do these things to keep peace and to be loving. But our scripture passage today clearly tells us that Jesus came to bring a sword and that we will be divided because of our beliefs. If you read on in Matthew 10, verses 35 and 36 talk about how members of our own household will be our enemies. Verse 37 tells us that those of us who do not put Christ above all others is not worthy of Him. And verses 38-39 tells us if we are not willing to take up our cross and follow Him we are not worthy of Him.
We are being shown commercials on network television that neither children nor Christians should be watching, but there they are. They are on network television in primetime and throughout the day. Netflix has some wonderful Christian movies and my husband have enjoyed a number of them. But if you look on the One Million Mom’s website you will see that they also have a show called Paradise PD which blasphemes Jesus Christ. This morning my husband and I were discussing dropping our Netflix account. Do we get rid of the shows that we enjoy which are good, clean shows because of this one awful show?
This poses another question. We enjoy watching several pastors on YouTube. But if you search for it you can also find channels that promote Satanic worship. Do we quit watching YouTube? The same goes for Amazon and Facebook and just about anything else. Do we drop our network television shows because of programming that is contrary to our beliefs and because of the commercials they are airing?
I subscribe to One Million Moms because they not only make me aware of these things, but they usually have a petition going that I can sign to try to stop them. If you are interested, it’s onemillionmoms.com.
I’m not asking you where you draw the line because I am trying to tell you where to draw it. I am asking because I’m posing this question to myself. I do know that the only way to answer this question is to look at it from a biblical viewpoint. Looking through the lens of Scripture can makes those lines a lot less blurry.
It really comes down to whether we choose to live our lives according to the Bible or not. I can choose the good and not the bad in cases with Netflix, YouTube, Facebook and any other broadcasting or social media platform. But, I feel that we have to call these people out on such horrific violations of God’s Holy Word. We have to take some type of action, James 4:17 tells us that if we know what is right and don’t do it, it’s a sin. We are called to expose such evil and speak against it.
Ephesians 5:11 says that we shall have nothing to do with evil deeds and darkness, but that we must expose them. The time has come where, as Christians, we must draw the line. We must choose to do our best to live according to God’s Holy Word. We must not tolerate evil. We must expose it. When we stand up to evil and those who commit blasphemy against Jesus Christ, we must trust that we are standing behind God’s sword. But when we tolerate evil and wickedness, we are on our own. We may just find ourselves on the business end of God’s sword.
We can spend our Sundays on the church pew and shout “Hallelujah!” and “Amen!” till the cows come home. But, Jesus makes it very clear (Matthew 7:22-23) that many believing they are saved will call out to Him, “Lord, Lord” on the day of judgment and He will say to them, “I never knew you, depart from Me, you lawbreakers!”. He will deny them before His Father.
I beg of you today not to get on the wrong side of God’s sword. Trust in Him today. Ask Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit to guide you through this dark world we live in. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” God uses His sword to draw the line. It’s time we use the Sword of the Spirit He provides for us in Ephesians 6:17 to do the same.
Have a great day!
