When We Trust God

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.  Proverbs 3:5-6 HCSB

It’s easy to say, “I trust God”. But proving it is another thing entirely. You see when we trust in God, we don’t worry. Should I say that again, when we trust in God, we don’t worry. We don’t fret about the outcome, we know that God’s in complete control. We know that He loves us and that He works all things out for our good because we love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). We trust that He has good plans for us and wants the absolute best for us (Jeremiah 29:11). We know that because He cares for us, we have no need to worry (1 Peter 5:7). We know that if we put Him first, He will take care of all that we need (Matthew 6:33). When we truly trust in God and develop that close relationship with Him where we trust Him in all matters, we have a lot less anxiety in our lives.

When we trust in God, we give it all to Him. And we give it to him completely. We don’t try to hang on to it, we let it go. We don’t try to pick it back up if God is not working according to our time frame. We trust that God’s timing is perfect and we give it all over to Him. God is not going to play tug of war with us. Either we give it to Him or we try to do it our way. I always envision myself tugging at a rope with God tugging on the other end. I envision Him letting go and me falling on my rear. I have tried to hold on to problems before and handle them myself and that’s what it felt like when I failed. We know that if we wait upon the Lord that our strength will be renewed and we can soar like eagles, we can run and not grow weary, walk and not faint (Isaiah 41:29).

When we trust in God, we do not fear. We aren’t dismayed, because we know that God’s got this. We know that He upholds us by His righteous hand (Isaiah 41:10).

When we trust in God, we are better able to  imitate Christ (Ephesians 5:1). Without all that worry and fear, we are better able to walk in love (Ephesians 5:2). We are able to help others knowing that God is handling whatever we have going on in our lives. Others see a peace in us that they want which allows us to be better equipped to share the gospel with them. We can let them know how we got that peace and joy in our lives.

I spent many years in my life trying to do things my way. Then I spent a few years claiming to trust God, but trying to take back my problems when I didn’t feel that He was working fast enough. In desperation, after I had made a mess of things, I had to give it all over to Him. I had to trust Him because I honestly didn’t know what else to do. When I did this, He showed me what He could do. Wow! I was amazed. I have spent the last ten years being amazed by what God can do in my life. I have learned that trusting in Him is the only way I can live. I can’t go back to the worrying and fear that once prevailed in my life. I can’t go back to trying to do it all on my own. I can only trust in Him.

The biggest thing I have learned is that with God handling all my problems, it enables me to help others. It enables me to work within my church and do the things that God has called me to do.

Know that trusting in God is a process. It doesn’t always happen over night. For me I think that it happened in desperation more than anything, but I still struggled with it for a while. I have learned that in all things I just need to give it over to Him. My prayer for you today is that you can learn to trust in God. Memorize today’s scripture. Repeat it back to yourself when you are facing difficult times. Know that God’s got this and give it over to Him. Trust in Him and He won’t let you down. He knows what your future holds and wants what is best for you. You can’t go wrong when you let go and let God handle it.

Have a great day!
