If anyone attacks you, it is not from Me; whoever attacks you will fall before you. Look, I have created the craftsman who blows on the charcoal fire and produces a weapon suitable for its task; and I have created the destroyer to cause havoc. No weapon formed against you will succeed, and you will refute any accusation raised against you in court. This is the heritage of the Lord’s servants, and their righteousness is from Me.” This is the LORD’s declaration. Isaiah 54:15-17 HCSB
I encourage you to read all of Isaiah 54. It speaks of the future glory for Israel. Isaiah prophesied Israel’s Babylonian captivity. Jermiah (the weeping prophet) tried desperately to get Israel to turn from their evil ways and their idol worship and repent. They refused. In Jeremiah 29:11, Jeremiah prophesied and told them to make themselves at home in the land where God would place them and know that God had good plans for them, plans for a future and a hope and plans for their welfare and not disaster, to give them a future and a hope. This was to take place after 70 years of captivity.
Isaiah is letting them know there will be future glory for Israel. It is sad that they refused to repent and were taken into captivity. But what is interesting to note is those who loved the Lord and served Him did well in their captivity. Daniel would be promoted to a position of authority and would be saved from the mouths of the lion after those jealous of him conspired against him. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego would have their lives spared after spending time in the fiery furnace. Esther would go on to become queen and save the Jewish people from Haman’s evil schemes. God took good care of those who were faithful to Him. He took care of those who continued to serve Him even when the going got tough. He’s doing the same today.
Do you believe you are one of those people? Do you believe God will take care of you in hard times? In verse 4 of Isaiah 54 he says, “Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame; don’t be humiliated, for you will not be disgraced. For you will forget the former shame of your youth and you will no longer remember the disgrace of your widowhood.”
I love the Old Testament because it gives us historical narratives of those who were not perfect just as we are not perfect. But they loved the Lord with their whole heart, and they served Him faithfully, and He took good care of them. He allowed Nehemiah to have favor in the sight of the king and be allowed to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the wall. He protected him when others came against him.
Do you believe God will do the same for you? I can tell you this from personal experience. In the time since I have rededicated my life to the Lord and had a personal revival I have been protected. I have had others come against me. They have not been successful. I have had others form weapons against me that did not prosper. I have had people lie about me and was able to refuse those accusations. This is what God has done for me and He will do the same for you.
When others have come against me it has tested my faith, but the more I stand firm in my faith, the more I am able to see God’s deliverance. I have watched Him fight my battles (2 Chronicles 20:17). I know that if He is for me, no one will be able to stand against me (Romans 8:31).
My friend when others come against us it is not for the weak and faint hearted. God calls on us to do the hard stuff and sometimes the hardest stuff is standing still knowing that He is God (Psalm 46:10) and watching Him work. Isaiah 40:31 tells us that those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength, soar on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary and walk and not faint.
If you have accepted Christ as your Savior and love Him with your whole heart, He’s got your back. You can trust in Him when the going gets tough. There will be others that come against you, of this you can be certain. But with God on your side, you cannot lose. Trust in Him to do what is best for you. Serve Him while you wait for His deliverance. He will grow your strength and credit your faith to you as righteousness (Genesis 15:6).
Have a great day!
