Then the Lord said to me, “Do not pray for the well-being of these people. If they fast, I will not hear their cry of despair. If they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. Rather, I will finish them off by sword, famine, and plague.” Jeremiah 14:11-12 HCSB
In our Scripture passage, the Lord is fed up with the Israelites. He is tired of their idolatry. He is tired of their unwillingness to repent. Way back in Deuteronomy 27-28, He promised them they would be cursed for disobedience and blessed for obedience.
He tells Jeremiah to not even pray for these people. He tells Jeremiah He will not accept their offering. Sadly, He tells Jeremiah He will use three methods to destroy them. Some will die by the sword. Some will die by famine and some by plague.
Now for those of you who think we serve a loving God, we do. But if you think God does not get fed up with our disobedience, you better think again. We also serve a God who will not tolerate disobedience. While the world is telling us as Christians, we need to be more tolerant, you can bet God is getting fed up with the world. He’s not tolerating our sin.
Jesus clearly tells us in John 16:33 that we will have trouble in this world, but we are to take heart and stand strong because He has overcome the world. In 1 John 4:4, we are reminded that we are from God and have conquered the antichrist because the One who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world.
If we love God, we will obey His commands (John 14:15). We will not willfully disobey Him or deliberately sin. If we do so, we can expect to receive God’s judgment (Hebrews 10:26).
We see God get fed up with King Saul in 1 Samuel 15. God had told Samuel to go in and destroy the Amalekites. He told Saul to kill everyone and all the animals. Saul disobeyed this. God rejected Saul at this point.
We are warned against this in Romans 1:18 which tells us God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. In verse 21, Paul goes on to say that though they knew God, they did not obey Him or glorify Him as God or show gratitude towards Him. Therefore, God made their thinking become nonsense and their senseless minds were darkened.
Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and animals.
Sadly, in verse 24, it says God gave them over to their heart’s desire or sexual impurity so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. They exchanged God’s truth for a lie and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator.
My friend if you believe in God, you must believe in the truth that is found in His holy word. This truth is that we will face judgment for our sins. Our refusal to give up our deliberate sins will lead us to destruction. God will eventually reject us and give us over to our sinful desires.
Don’t believe the lies of people who say just do what you feel, and God will understand. God doesn’t understand nor does He tolerate disobedience. There will come a time when He says, “Enough is enough.” He will give you just what you want, and you will be without what you need which is Him.
Don’t let it get to that point. Confess your sins to Him, repent, and ask His forgiveness. We are told in 1 John 1:9 that He is faithful to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Turn from your sins today. Trust in Him. He will help you and strengthen you. Don’t wait until God has had enough of your disobedience because by then it will be too late.
Have a great day!
