“Then in a furious rage Nebuchadnezzar gave orders to bring in Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king. Nebuchadnezzar asked them, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, is it true that you don’t serve my gods or worship the gold statue I have set up? Now if you’re ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music, fall down and worship the statue I made. But if you don’t worship it, you will immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire — and who is the god who can rescue you from my power? ” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we don’t need to give you an answer to this question. If the God we serve exists, then He can rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and He can rescue us from the power of you, the king. But even if He does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.””

The book of Daniel gives many of examples of how God takes care of us through trials. The important thing to remember is to stay true to God. Don’t give into social pressure. Don’t let others influence you or cause your faith to be shaken.
The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is one of my favorites. They, along with Daniel, had been captured and were serving as slaves in Babylon. King Nebuchadnezzar had a gold statue and wanted everyone to bow down and worship it when any type of musical instrument was played. He ordered that anyone who failed to comply with this order be thrown into the fiery furnace.
i hope you take time to read the whole story because it is truly an awesome story! Basically, they refuse to comply, are thrown into the fire, and come out totally unaffected, no burns, no soot, no smoky smell. Wow! Now mind you, the fire had been turned up so high that it killed the men that had thrown them into the furnace.
Now I don’t know about you, but I think I would be happier if we could just forego the fire and God would just guide us over the fiery pits or around them, but often we find ourselves standing in the fire. The great thing, though, is that just like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. God is standing in that fire with us. He is protecting us so that we can come through the fire unscathed.
You see in this story when Nebuchadnezzar looked into the furnace he saw not three men walking around in the fire, but four.
We know that gold is purified by fire and so are we. God brings us through these fiery ordeals to purify us and strengthen our faith.
So if you are standing in the midst of the fire as you read this, do not fear. God is with you and He will bring you through this.
My favorite part of this story is when they tell Nebuchadnezzar that even if God did not rescue them they would not worship his idols. They stayed true to God. They knew that if God did not rescue them from that fire, that he would bring them up to heaven and they would be rescued from the eternal fire in hell. As Christians, for us it’s a win/win situation. We can’t lose.
When we focus on God and stay strong in the faith, we may be thrown into the fire, but we will come out victorious! So go forth and have a fearless day knowing that as Christians we are 100% fireproof!
