This Is Only A Drill

Because you have kept my command to endure, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is going to come over the whole world to test those who live on earth.  Revelation 3:10 HCSB

I remember the good old days. Remember when you would be in school and all of a sudden, you would hear that alarm that signaled that there was a fire in the building. You were expected to follow your teacher’s lead and the instructions you had been taught about safely exiting the building and meeting at your designated spot. Then, once everyone had gotten outside, the principal would come and announce that it had merely been a drill and would usually tell you how long it took for everyone to safely evacuate the building. You could then return to class. We did these drills so that in the event of an actual emergency, such as a fire, we would know what to do and would not panic. Unfortunately now, children go through drills for active shooters. My, how times have changes. Firemen and policemen go through extensive training on how to handle emergency situations. They need to be calm and collected when disaster strikes.

And I don’t know about you, but I think about flight attendants here. I want my flight attendant to remain calm, I don’t need her to look as though she knows we are all about to die when we go through some turbulence. Proper, continual training is what helps professionals remain professional during trying times.

Now as we sit back and watch what is unfolding worldwide today, I must admit that it’s a little scary. Last night my pastor said that he got a post on his face book feed that showed two lines of people. One line was for a cure for COVID-19 and the other was a line for salvation. Needless to say, the line for the cure for COVID-19 was very long and the line for salvation only had a few people standing there. The virus doesn’t scare me, people’s lack of faith scares me.

The problem we see today is that more people are worried about the virus than those who are worried about eternal life. But I want you to understand one very important fact. If you think what is going on in the world today is scary, you ain’t seen nothing yet. When the rapture takes place, all of us Christians who have believed in Jesus will be brought up to heaven. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 tells us that The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are still alive will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and we will always be with the Lord. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that not everyone will be taken up to meet the Lord in the air. Matthew 24:40-42 says that two men will be in the field and one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill and one will be taken and one will be left. Therefore, he tells us to be alert, since you don’t know what day the Lord is coming.

What scares me the most about this entire situation is the vast number of people that are trapped in fear. You can’t be fearful and faithful at the same time. If you are trapped in fear, then you are void of faith. Many, many people have no faith only fear. That’s the really scary part of this whole situation.

We must remember that this is only a drill. Christians are still here on planet earth. We have not yet been simultaneously called up. The awesome news is that there is still time. If you have not believed in Jesus Christ and accepted Him as your savior and confessed your sins to Him and repented and asked forgiveness, there is still time to do that. You can put your faith in Him and trust in Him today. You can watch your fear fade away as your faith takes over.

This is only a drill, my friend, let get it right!

Have a great day!
