How happy are those whose way is blameless, who living according to the LORD’s instruction! Happy are those who keep His decrees and seek Him with all their heart. Psalm 119:1-2 HCSB
Have you ever seen someone who is happy and at peace and you wonder how they do it? Maybe you have even seen them go through a very trying time and remain calm and steady and are even more amazed and wonder even more, how they manage to stay happy and peaceful in a time like that. Our scripture passage today explains how they do it.
I am a reformed worrier. For many years, I worried and I struggled trying to do so many things in my power. I thought that in my strength and my power, I could make my job better, I could make my relationships better. I was wrong. You see, it took me a while to realize it, but I have no strength and no power. Now I am strong and powerful, but my strength and my power comes from God. Without Him I have nothing. The bible verse Philippians 4:13 which tells me that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, brought me through some hard times. It brought me through the desperate illness of my three week old niece. Praise God He healed her and blessed us with a young lady who is not only beautiful, but strong and wise beyond her years. It brought me through my dad’s illness and death. And it still carries me today through any hard time that I face. Matthew 6:33 tells me that if I focus on God, He will handle everything else for me. I have no need to worry. He has proven this to be true, time and time again.
So when you see someone who is calm in the midst of a storm, this is how we do it. We follow the advice that David gave in today’s scripture passage. If you want to be truly happy and experience joy beyond belief, live according to the LORD’s instruction. The almighty God that gives you life and allows you to wake up each day has some simple instructions for you to follow. The most important of these instructions is that you love Him with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This means that nothing gets in the way of your love for Him. The second most important instruction is that you love your neighbor as you love yourself. Whether we want to admit it or not, we really love ourselves. Treat those around you as you would like to be treated. There is a good reason that this is called the Golden Rule.
These two instructions cover the ten commandments. But if you need it broke down, you can read the ten commandments in Exodus 20.
Have you not been following the Lord’s instructions? Maybe you have half way followed the Lord’s instructions, but have not put that whole hearted thing in there. Well, if you are experiencing turmoil and chaos in any area of your life, know that this is the devil. If you don’t submit to the Lord, you leave plenty of room for the devil to creep in.
If you want peace and joy in your life, this is how you do it. You turn to God. You give it all over to Him, the good, the bad, the ugly. He’s a big, mighty and powerful God. Trust me, he can handle it. Then you let it go. That’s right, let it all go. Let Him have it. You weren’t doing such a great job with it anyway, right? You just focus on loving Him and serving Him and let Him handle the mess you have going on. All you have to do is follow the instructions. This is how you live a life filled with peace and joy no matter what your circumstances.
Unless you just love chaos and turmoil, turn to Him today. What are you waiting for?
Have a great day!
