The Storm Rages On

The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected.  Proverbs 18:10 HCSB

But let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them shout for joy forever. May you shelter them, and may those who love Your name boast about you.  For You, LORD bless the righteous one; You surround him with favor like a shield.  Psalm 5:11-12 HCSB

You are my hiding place; You protect me from trouble. You surround me with joyful shouts of deliverance. Selah.  Psalm 32:7 HCSB

I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”  Psalm 91:2 HCSB

Yesterday, we got the first  bit of Hurricane Barry which threatens our area. We saw a powerful storm with bursts of lightning and thunder that rattled the windows of our home. We lost electricity and spent a few hours using candles for light.  We are no stranger to hurricanes in Louisiana.  For many years working in law enforcement, leaving was not an option, as we were subject to be called out to work.  Once I retired I dreamed of just packing up and leaving until the storm subsided. Now, with my mom living with me and my husband being a first responder that is not an option.

But there is a shelter that I can run to without leaving my home.  God is my shelter.  Psalm 91 is my favorite chapter in the Bible.  In verse 2 it says, I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.”  I have shelter in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  I can trust in God to protect me from the storm.  I can trust in Him to keep me safe.

Yesterday, I spoke with my soon-to-be daughter-in-law who works at a hospital in New Orleans.  I text her because I saw that it was flooding down there and was concerned for her safety.  She said that she had made it to work okay and that they were sheltering in place.  With God that’s what we do each and every day.  Psalm 91:1 says that those who live under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.  As Christians, we can shelter in place.  We can be safe no matter what type of storm rages around us.

It is said that we are either in the midst of trial and tribulation, have just come through a period of trial and tribulation, or are about to experience trials and tribulations.  Whatever your current circumstances are, know that you have a refuge and a fortress you can turn to.  Know that God wants to wrap His loving arms around you and keep you safe.

As the storms of life rage on around you, seek shelter, be protected by the One who loves you more than you will ever be able to comprehend.  Trust in Him in times of trouble.  He won’t let you down.

Have a great day!
