Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; and He will guide you on the right paths. Don’t consider yourself to be wise, fear the LORD and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:5-7 HCSB
My dear friend and former co-worker and office mate is a great planner. She is super intelligent and plans every detail of all that she does. She is a quick thinker and can easily adapt and overcome when things don’t go as planned. She and her husband have helped to plan several weddings and I am sure they do a great job.
When we are hosting an event that is out of our realm of expertise it is wise to hire a planner. Wedding planners get paid a great deal of money to plan weddings down to even the most minute of details. I am told that it’s worth every penny to let a planner handle a big event like this.
If someone were to look at a graph chart of my life, you could easily see where I left the planning to God and where I stepped in there and tried to do things my way. The high points were all God’s doing and the low points, well that would be me. You see I have finally learned that when it comes to planning my life, the best thing I can do is pray and trust in God wholeheartedly. If I obey His commands and remember His teachings then I do well (Proverbs 3:1-2). When I am loyal and faithful to God I find favor with Him and my relationships with other human beings usually go much better as well (Proverbs 3:3-4).
But there have been times when I have foolishly considered myself to be wise and decided to take matters into my own hands. What a mistake that turned out to be. Instead of allowing the perfect planner to handle matters, I thought I had it all under control. Boy, was I ever wrong.
You see, when I tried to run things I became prideful. When I became prideful, I lacked godly wisdom. In lacking godly wisdom, the devil was able to deceive me much easier and I didn’t turn away from evil. And just like those poor Israelites, I would sin and make a mess of things and go crying to God to beg for His help and His forgiveness. It was a miserable cycle there for a while.
But, praise God I have finally decided that having the perfect planner take care of things makes my life much easier. If I just turn it all over to Him and allow Him to handle it, I am very pleased with the results. It took a while to learn that this means even the little things, I give it all over to Him.
My prayer for you today is that you do the same. I pray that you have lived out the truth in Proverbs chapter 3. I encourage you to read the entire chapter, it’s just 34 short verses. When we trust in God and allow Him to do the planning, He gives us wisdom. He upholds those of us who are righteous, but curses the wicked (Proverbs 3:33).
In Jeremiah 29:11 we are told that God has good plans for our lives. We only mess this up when we jump in and try to take over. Leave the planning to Him, you won’t be disappointed. Trust in Him and obey His commands and focus on Him and He will take good care of you.
Have a great day!
