The Lord’s Anger

Because they will turn your sons away from Me to worship other gods. Then the LORD’s anger will burn against you, and He will swiftly destroy you.     Deuteronomy 7:4 HCSB

We serve a loving God. We serve a God who loves us unconditionally, but this does not mean He will tolerate our disobedience. When we intentionally go against God’s commands, we run the risk of incurring his wrath.

We are clearly told in Hebrews 10:26 that if we sin deliberately after we have knowledge of the truth, meaning we know better, there no longer remains a sacrifice for our sins. In other words, Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins. However, we must choose to accept or reject His incredible gift.

Your words may say you accept His salvation, but your actions may say otherwise. God judges our hearts. He knows where we truly stand. And actually, those around us know too because it becomes painfully obvious when someone who claims to be a Christian behaves like the devil.

Hebrews 10:27 goes on to say that instead of a sacrifice for our sins there is a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries. When we sin, we create a barrier between us and God (Isaiah 59:2).

In James 4:4 says, “Adulteresses! Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever wants to be the world’s friend becomes God’s enemy.” When we sin and act like the rest of the world, we become an enemy to God.

In Exodus 20 in the first 4 verses God is clearly warning the Israelites not to have any gods before Him. He tells them not to make and worship any images. And in verse 5, He says, “You must not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God…”

There were numerous passages in the Bible where it tells us that the LORD’s anger burned against someone or a group of people for their rebellion. When this happens, it speaks of God swiftly destroying them.

I want you to understand this, you may get away with sinful behavior for a period of time, but this does not mean it is not angering the Lord. Just because you don’t immediately suffer for your disobedience doesn’t mean you never will.

I have often seen people get away with so much evil for so long and then in an instant see their world crumble before them. Some may sin and we may never see their judgment. But the Bible tells us we will all be judged for our deeds good and bad.

In Revelation 19 it speaks of the rider of the white horse. This is Jesus. In verse 15 it says, “Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

If you think God doesn’t get angry you are being deceived. If you shy away from a pastor who preaches about God’s anger and God’s wrath, you might want to rethink that. We serve a loving God, but we also serve a jealous God. We serve a righteous God and His wrath will be poured out on those who are disobedient. Nobody gets a free pass to sin.

If you are caught up in deliberate sin or just not living as you know you should, you better give this some careful consideration. You may want to ask yourself where you want to spend eternity. And please keep in mind that is forever my friend. Once we die or are raptured there is no chance to change our ways.

Turn to God now. Surrender your life to Him before it is too late. Believe me when I say, you never want to have the Lord’s anger burning against you! Live a life that is pleasing to Him because if He’s not happy, you won’t be happy forever and that’s a very long time.

Have a great day!
