Tears In Heaven

And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God himself will be among them and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.  Revelation 21:3-4 NASB

If my title sounds familiar, perhaps it is because there is a song by the same title. This song was written by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings and appeared on the 1991 Soundtrack for the movie, Rush. This song was written following the tragic death of Conor, Clapton’s four year old son. On this earth, we have things that cause us to cry and to mourn. We experience physical and emotional pain, but these things will be things of the past once we get to heaven.

When we get to heaven, we will have loved ones that didn’t make it. We won’t mourn for them. God will wipe away every tear. We will be His people and He will dwell among us. I wrote last week about being separated from God, which is what hell is going to be. But for those of us that are saved and go to heaven, we will be with God for eternity in glory.

Perhaps you are going through some tough times and struggling here on earth. Well, let me assure you that God is here for you. He wants to help you, but you must turn to Him. We are not promised that we will not have troubles here on earth, but we are promised that there will be no tears in heaven. There will be no mourning and no pain. The things of this earth will pass away.

I have long dreamed of vacationing in Hawaii. I have seen pictures from relatives trips there and it looks like a paradise here on earth, but my problem is getting there. I had once booked a trip, but had to cancel. It is expensive to go there, but I would love to be able to make it there someday. You could say the same about heaven, it is paradise and you must pay the price to get there. The difference between a trip to Hawaii and going to heaven is that heaven is permanent. You can scrimp and save and go to Hawaii and unless you move there, you will only be left with pictures, memories and souvenirs. But when we get to heaven that is our eternal destination. It is our home and where we belong. So the price we paid is well worth it, right?

For me to get to some place like Hawaii, I am going to have to give up some things, like maybe eating out a little less or not buying a few things that I want. For us to get to heaven, we have to give up some things as well. But the awesome thing is that once we get to heaven, what we will be giving up is our suffering, heartache, and pain.

If I told you that I knew of a way that you could get through life without any more heartache or pain whatsoever, would you take me up on that? Well, I do. You can turn to God and trust in Him. For the rest of your time here on earth you will experience sadness at times. You will mourn the loss of loved ones, but you will have peace that passes understanding. You will have joy that is never ending. When you get to your permanent home in heaven there will be no more tears, no more sadness and no more pain, just eternity in glory with your heavenly Father.

Now, the alternative is hell where we are told that those there will be tormented day and night (Revelation 20:10). Luke 13:28 describes hell as a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth.

So, permanent weeping or no more tears ever, the choice is yours. I pray that you choose wisely.

Have a great day!
