Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up; You understand my thoughts from far away. You observe my travels and my rest; You are aware of all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, You know all about it, Lord. You have encircled me; You have placed Your hand on me. Psalm 139:1-5 HCSB
I know that we all love the wonders of modern day technology. As you read this, you are probably on your computer, tablet, or smartphone or maybe even your smart tv. These are wonderful gadgets. As I sit here typing this, I am looking at the bandage that my six year old niece placed over my computer camera yesterday. I have had this computer for almost a year and have neglected to cover the camera. I had the laptop open yesterday and she questioned why I had not done this and then had me get a Band-Aid so that she could cover it. Now without going too “conspiracy theory” on you, let me say this. You see this wonderful technology has not only put a world of information at our fingertips, but it has put all our information in the hands of many others. The purpose for covering the camera on your laptop is so that someone can’t hack in and see what you are doing. Through your smartphone the government can listen to your conversations. Even those conversations that you have near your phone, not only the ones on your phone. The only way to prevent this is to take the battery out or put your phone in a plastic bag or closed case when not in use. Yeah, I know. When my husband told me, I didn’t believe it either, but then James Patterson wrote a book and mentioned this little bit of information and I found out that it really is true. So we pay a high price to have all this technology.
Let me ask you this, if you knew that someone was listening to every word you said and watching every move you made, would you do things differently? Even us Christians tend to guard our mouths a little more when we are around our church friends or the preacher, right? But what if the preacher was always around you, would you behave differently? What if the preacher was standing beside you at your job? What if the preacher was observing the way you speak to your spouse and your children? What if the preacher was standing there while you were engrossed in a gossip session? Hmm, just a little something to think about.
You see God is always there. Now I am very grateful for our pastor and I know that he is truly a man of God, but I am talking about God Himself. Our very creator is present standing right there to not only hear every word that comes out of our mouths but every thought that pops into our head. He knows what we are going to say before we say it. So with all that being said, do you need to think differently? The Bible tells us in Luke 6:45 that a good man produces good from the storeroom of his heart and an evil man produces evil from his storeroom. He goes on to say that the mouth speaks from an overflow of the heart. So maybe you need a little heart transplant. Do you need to change some things?
If you continue reading in Psalm 139:7, David says, “Where can I go to escape Your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?” Well, the answer to that is, nowhere, my friend. You cannot escape the Holy Spirit. You cannot flee from God’s presence. He is omnipotent, all powerful. He is omnipresent, he’s everywhere at once. And He is omniscient, meaning that he knows all.
So to sum things up, there are some precautions you can take to keep the government from spying on you through your devices, but God sees all. There is nothing you can do to escape His presence. He sees all you do, the good, the bad and the ugly. But you know what? He loves you in spite of it.
Romans 3:23 tells us that we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. But praise God, he’s only a prayer away. We can call on Him. We can confess our sins and repent and be forgiven. God not only wants you to be mindful of his presence, but He wants you to feel His presence. This will happen when you enter into a close relationship with Him. He’s not just there to see when you fail, but He is there to pick you up when you fall. Aren’t you glad that God is always near.
Have a great day!
