Rest Assured

The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hands. The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who refuses to believe in the Son will not see life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him.
John 3:33-36 HCSB

The term rest assured is one we use to make a guarantee. It implies certainty and security in any given situation. There are very few things in this world in which we can rest assured today. We are in an election season and many politicians are telling us to rest assured, but sadly we can’t do that. Many are lying.

There are false prophets out there who are telling us to rest assured if we give them enough money, all will be good for us. Sadly, many will tell us to rest assured and we will be disappointed.

If we want certainty and we want security, the only place we can truly find this is in our Savior, Jesus Christ. Our Scripture passage tells us to believe in Him and we will have eternal life. My friend, there are only two places we can go when we suffer a physical death, heaven or hell.

I don’t know about you, but if I thought I was headed to hell, I would not be feeling much certainty or security. The problem is many people are headed to hell and have no clue. So, how can we rest assured in our salvation?

Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14 we must enter through the narrow gate and travel the difficult road. What does that mean? It means that getting to heaven isn’t easy. Being a Christian will be tough. We will go through trials and tribulations, but we must stand strong in our Savior. We must trust in Him and not lose faith.

In Matthew 7:21, Jesus tells us that many who believe they are saved will not make it into heaven. Many people will read our Scripture passage today and say, “Yes I believe in Jesus so I’m good to go.” Not so fast there, Skippy. Our Scripture passage means more than that.

We are told in James 2:19 that the demons believe in Him, and they shudder. The demons understand God’s power. They understand what Jesus can do. Many of us just walk around in our little world and think believing in God is enough and all we need to do is just believe and we can live any way we want and waltz right into heaven.

I know, I used to be one of those people. I believe in God. I loved Him, so I thought that was good enough. I was wrong. I have since learned that believing in Him and truly loving Him means understanding who He is. He is a merciful God and He is willing to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). But He will also discipline us when we disobey Him. He will not tolerate repeated, deliberate sin (Hebrews 10:26). If you don’t believe me, just read the Old Testament.

If He disciplined Adam and Eve and the Israelites, what makes you think He won’t discipline you? God loves us but He will not tolerate disobedience.

Resting assured is something we can do if we surrender our lives to Him. We can be certain that no matter what we may go through here on earth, our eternal home is in heaven. We can understand that we are just passing through here.

My prayer for you today is that you have established a good, strong relationship with Jesus Christ. If so, you can rest assured that you will spend eternity in heaven with God the Father. Should you die, your loved ones can rest assured that you are in a place where you will have peace and joy eternally.

My question for you today, is can you truly rest assured? Have you surrendered yourself to Him and given it all over to Him?

Have you let go of the sin in your life that is weighing you down? Have you decided to obey Him even if it means denying yourself?

Many will face judgment only to find their eternal home is in hell. Don’t be one of those people. Believe in Him, obey His commands, and understand His power.

If we do this, then and only then, can we truly rest assured.

Have a great day!
