Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old one has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
There are a couple of questions we need to be asking ourselves. The most important is, are we truly saved? We are living in the end times. None of us know exactly when we will be called home, but we know it will happen. If it were to happen right this very minute, are you ready?
If you made a public profession of faith and were baptized, this doesn’t necessarily mean you were saved. It’s important that we understand this. There are many reasons one might be baptized and it’s not always because they are called to salvation and accept the call Jesus had laid on their heart.
Some reasons include being swept up in emotion in some event like a revival. Some include a desire to please those you love or to impress others. There are numerous reasons people make public professions and get baptized but the reason we should do this is because we are ready for a change in our lives.
So, one of the best ways to determine if we are truly saved is to consider if we have changed our ways. It’s common to see people get baptized and go right back into their old ways of life. So, think about when you were baptized, did you make positive changes in your life?
Or, did you cling to your old intentional sin like a life raft keeping you afloat in this evil world? Hebrews 10:26 says if we go on sinning after knowing the truth there no longer remains a sacrifice for our sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire about to consume the enemies.
When we are truly saved, we don’t want to sin. We may still slip up at times, but we judge that sin, are convicted and confess it and repent. We pray for God to strengthen us against the temptation.
Salvation changes our perspective on how we live our lives. We want to live our lives in a way that pleases Him. We want to do what is right and live in right standing with our Lord and Savior. We want to change our ways so the things we say and do bring Him glory and honor and praise. This change should be evident to those around us. We should exhibit the fruits of the Spirit, which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self-control.
If you claim to be saved and maybe even spend every Sunday adorning a church pew but are unsure of your salvation, I beg of you to be sure. This is the most important thing we will do in our lives here on earth. When we are truly saved, we want others to experience the peace and joy we have found. We must be truly saved to spend eternity with God in heave
Were you ready for a change when you were saved? Did you change the way you lived your life? Did your heart change? If you wonder if you were truly saved, draw near to God. We are told in James 4:7-8, “Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, double-minded people.”
Are you double-minded? Are you trying to focus on God and conform to this world at the same time. That will never work.
When we get saved, we should be ready for a change because salvation changes us. Have you been truly saved? Are you ready for a change?
If you got saved and nothing changed, now is a good time to make some positive changes in your life. If you were never saved it’s not too late, turn to God today. Begin by drawing near to God and seeking Him with all your heart. The change will do you good.
Have a great day!
