Moses said, “Please, Lord, send someone else.”
Then the LORD’s anger burned against Moses, and He said, “Isn’t Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, he is on his way now to meet you. He will rejoice when he sees you. You will speak with him and tell him what to say. I will help both you and him to speak and will teach you both what to do. Exodus 4:13-15 HCSB
We talked a few days ago about all the excuses Moses gave for not going to Egypt. Finally, he just asked God to send someone else. This infuriated God. This is something we never want to do.
Shortly after I retired from working 22 years as a probation/parole officer my friend at church asked me to teach an AWANA class. She wanted me to teach the cubbies which were the 3–5-year-olds. My immediate reaction was, “You must be joking right?” I had just come from an environment where I was able to handcuff, shackle and cart off to jail those who did not behave properly or follow the rules. Now you want me to teach a group of children between the ages of 3 and 5? For some reason which I don’t understand I didn’t immediately say, “No.” I told her I would pray about it, and I did. After I prayed about it, I just couldn’t say no. I truly believed this was what God wanted me to do. I can tell you it was way out of my comfort zone. The funny thing about God is that He often likes to call us out of our comfort zones. I accepted the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed teaching these young children. I loved the simplicity in their prayers, and their simplistic views of life. I’m sure I learned as much or more from them as they did from me and their AWANA lessons.
Do you have reason to believe God is calling you out of your comfort zone? Has He put a task before you that you strongly believe He wants you to do? Are you begging Him to send someone else or are you rolling your sleeves up and getting to work?
I have learned refusing to do what God calls us to do causes us to lose out on the blessings He has prepared for us. God’s will shall be done without or without our help. God will bless us for doing His work or He will find someone else to do it and bless them.
God never intended for us to just sit around and be fed His word. He has work for us to do. He has jobs for each and every one of us. Often times these are jobs we would never consider doing on our own. These jobs tend to take us out of our comfort zones. God knows our future. He knows what is best for us. Why would we not want to do what He has called us to do?
God’s commands can also take you out of your comfort zone. God commands that we love Him with our whole heart. Maybe you have found yourself in relationships or work situations where that would be outside of your comfort zone. He calls us to love our neighbors. Maybe you are uncomfortable with this, and it’s outside your comfort zone. These are not suggestions, but commandments (Matthew 22:37-39). Jesus said these two summed up the Ten Commandments God gave Moses to share with us. He even calls us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44).
I can only say if you are uncomfortable loving God and loving others you may be uncomfortable in heaven because that’s what heaven is all about. The heat in Louisiana these past few days has assured me that I would be very uncomfortable in the fires of hell. I can assure you I would much rather step out of my comfort zone here and do as God calls me to do and commands me to do than try to explain to Him why I didn’t.
Don’t risk God’s wrath by asking him to send someone else. Trust in His will for your life. Trust in His plans for you. You will be so glad you did.
Have a great day!
