Need More Salt

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.    Matthew 5:13 HCSBI

Yes, I am boasting, but I feel that Louisiana has some of the best food in the world. I enjoy traveling, but I am always happy to come home to some of our good cooking that we have here. Years ago, I traveled to Florida. I stopped at a lovely little seafood restaurant just outside of St. Petersburg and made the mistake of ordering a fried shrimp platter. When the waitress brought it to the table and I took a bite, I was repulsed. It had no flavor. When she came back to the table minutes later to see if we were pleased with the food, I asked her how they cook their shrimp. She said they put a little salt on it and fry it. When my friend that was with me explained that I was from Louisiana, our waitress instantly understood the problem. She took the shrimp back and I ordered a cheeseburger.

I have had friends that have moved from Louisiana, but they always ask friends and family to send them seasonings from here that they can’t get outside of Louisiana.

Seasoning is very important, but if seasoning has lost it’s flavor it is no good. It is useless.

As Christians, we are meant to be the salt of the earth. We are meant to season the world around us. We are meant to show God’s love and God’s goodness and mercy and grace to those in our path. This is easy to do when we are first saved. We are baby Christians taking those first steps and it is exciting. But as time goes on and the world makes it demands on us, we lose our zeal. We lose our passion. Hurt feelings, heartaches, and disappointments cause us to lose our zest. We begin to go through the motions with no emotions. We can lose compassion for others. We can fail to show love for those who seem to be unlovable. We can have a harder time loving our enemies and praying for those who persecute us. Often times, we find that we just melt into the world and take on the characteristics of the world. When we do this, we lose our saltiness. We become ineffective and useless.

If you have never been saved, but are tired of living a life without peace, love and passion, then turn to God. Allow Him to help you to be the salt of the earth. If you have been saved, but are feeling as though you have lost your passion for Christ and His work, submit to Him. Give it all over to Him and trust in Him.

If you love the Lord, but have had your feelings hurt, suffered disappointments, or heartache, know that God can heal your broken heart. He can restore you. Give it all over to Him and trust in Him to fix it.

Let God handle those things that may be upsetting to you and you handle the business of lighting up the world for Him. You handle the business of adding good seasoning to the world around you and showing them what  life lived with God looks like.

Have a great day!
