There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven: Ecclesiastes 3:1 HCSB
This Scripture passage goes on to talk about how there is a time to give birth and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot a time to tear down, and a time to build. It speaks for the next 8 verses about how there is a time for everything. God knows what our days will be like. He knows how our time will be spent because He knows all things. He knows when we will waste time and when we will make the best use of the time He gives us.
Psalm 90:12 says, “So, teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Ephesians 5:16 says, “Making the best use of the time because the days are evil.” We should always pray for wisdom especially when it comes to making wise use of our time. We should pray for God to guard our time and guide us in the things we do.
The term making time has always intrigued me because of all the things we can make time is not one of them. We use the term that we are going to make time to do this or that like we are going to make brownies from a box mix. We will just throw a couple of ingredients together and suddenly have time. It doesn’t work that way.
When I worked, I always wished for more hours in a day. It seemed as though the days were never long enough to accomplish all I needed to do. I thought that would change once I retired, but there are still days when I find myself running short of time.
The best we can do in most cases is prioritize our time to make the best use of it. But it’s interesting how some people manage their time or fail to manage it. Again, it all boils down to our priorities and what we consider to be important. Many people don’t have time to pray or study their Bible during the day. When I worked, I was one of those people. The most important thing I could do on any given day, and I told myself I didn’t have time. I still shake my head at my own stupidity.
Many people don’t have time or care to make time to go to church. Maybe they just want to rest as it’s their only day off or maybe they have football games or time with friends or whatever. These same people will refuse to make time to go to God’s house but are sure they will be invited to live in His mansion once they leave this earth. They may be in for a big shock, just sayin’.
We make time for what’s important to us. I’ve come to realize that while I love my family and my friends, there is nothing more important than making time for God and what He has called me to do. In the story of Mary and Martha, Mary sat at Jesus’ feet listening to Him while Martha was busy being a good hostess. When Martha complained about Mary not helping and told Jesus to tell Mary to help her, Jesus responded, “Martha, Martha you are worried and upset about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.” Listening to Jesus and obeying Him is the only truly important thing we have to do.
None of us know what the future holds, but our priority should be spending time with the one who holds our future. We can’t manufacture time. We can only make wise use of what we have been given. Put God first in all you do and trust Him to take care of everything else. Make Him a priority.
Don’t make time for Jesus, use your time to honor Him. He will give you the time to do all the other things you need to do. Just trust in Him today.
Have a great day!
