And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry. But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared? And so is the one who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:19-21 LSB
I know a lot of people who are literally living their best life now. I used to be one of those people. I used to live for today and think that my happiness relied on being able to have the “good” things in life. It took a while for me to realize that the best thing in life is Jesus.
I no longer say I’m living my best life now. Since I rededicated my life to Him, I’ve been living my best life to date. I know it will only get better when I pass on from this life into my eternal destination.
When I lived my best life now, I put myself first. I did what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it. I didn’t worry about church and praying and reading my Bible. Oh, I did those things when they didn’t interfere with things like going out with friends or relaxing after a weekend of going out with friends.
It seemed good for a while, but it soon began to wear me down. I realized that there was a lot of drama in that lifestyle. Drama can weigh on you after a while. It took a while, but I began to realize that living my best life now was not so great. I finally realized that I wasn’t living my best life at all. I was living the life of a beer commercial, and I hate beer so what does that tell you?
Once I became frustrated with that life, I cried out to God and He showed me the way out. It was through surrendering to Him. It was through dedication and putting Him first in my life. It was through serving Him and letting others see Christ in me.
This is not always easy. It would be impossible without God. I’ve learned that everything is impossible for me, but with God’s help, there is nothing I can’t do. I’ve learned to trust in Him. I’ve learned to believe in His awesome power. I know He wants what’s best for me.
I also know I will go through trying times, but He will be right there with me. I look forward to living my best life with Him in heaven. I’m in no rush, I am good with waiting for God’s timing.
There are many people these days who are truly living their best lives now. This is as good as it will get. They put themselves first and call God for the 911 situations or perhaps don’t call on Him at all.
Perhaps you have a full life right now and no time for Jesus. I get it. I just want you to understand that there will come a time maybe now or maybe years from now, when you will have to account to Jesus for how you spent your life here on earth. You will have to answer to Him.
After you give your accounting of your life here on earth there are two possible answers we will receive. Jesus said in Matthew 7:23 that at that time many will hear from Him, “I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.” For those who get this response, eternity is not going to go well.
Those of us who love the Lord, obey His commands, and serve Him during our time here on earth will hear something like, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
If you are living your best life now enjoy it. It may end this moment or 50 years from now, only God knows. If you want to secure your best life for eternity, turn to Him today. Trust in Him. Obey His commands. Love Him with your whole heart, and serve Him.
Then even though He will take good care of you down here, you can be assured that your best life is yet to come.
Have a great day!
