Keep Calm

“When you go out to war against your enemies and see horses, chariots, and an army larger than yours, do not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you.  When you are about to engage in battle, the priest is to come forward and address the army.  He is to say to them: ‘Listen, Israel:  Today you are about to engage in battle with our enemies.  Do not be cowardly.  Do not be afraid, alarmed, or terrified because of them.  For the Lord your God is the One who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give your victory”.   Deuteronomy 20:1-4  HCSB

Let’s face it, there are times when our life feels like one huge battle after another.  Sometimes the army seems so vast that we just want to give up.  But rest assured, if God is going before you, you have nothing to fear.  I am often amused when someone tells me, “well there is nothing left for us to do but to pray”.  That should be our first line of defense.  We should begin with prayer.

We also want to be sure that we are in God’s will.  Sometimes we spin our wheels because we are fighting a battle that God never intended for us to get involved in, in the first place.

So if the army seems huge and you seem horribly outnumbered, know that if God is calling you to fight this battle, that He’s got this.  He will deliver the enemy into your hands.  He will take care of you and protect you during this time of battle.

You have no reason to fear.  You can go boldly into the battle knowing that God will take care of this.

In Ephesians 6, verses 10-18, God gives us the armor we need to fight in battle and to get through everyday life.  We must remember to put on God’s armor daily and especially when we face our enemies.

One important thing to remember is that our scripture passage today comes from Deuteronomy chapter 20.  At this point  Moses and the Israelites were getting close to entering the promised land. Now we know that Moses didn’t make it to the promised land and Joshua had to take over leading the Israelites, but If you read through Deuteronomy and Joshua you will see that they had to fight many battles to get into the land that God had promised them.  They weren’t able to just march in and take over, they had to fight the inhabitants of the lands on the way to get through there.

God has promised us a great reward in a wonderful land when this life on earth is over.  Unfortunately, like the Israelites, we won’t just march in and take over.  We will fight many battles on the way to our promised land.  Enemies will come against us.  We will suffer hardships along the way.

But remember to keep calm, remember that we serve the God that will help us to overcome.  We serve the God that will avenge us(Romans 12:19).  We serve the God that will fight the battle for us and deliver the enemies and their plunder into our hands (2 Chronicles 20).  We serve the God that can move mountains and we serve the  God that the winds and rains obey.

So when the vast army comes against you, all hope is not lost.  Stay calm and know that God will take care of this.

I pay for insurance because I have to but my best insurance policy is God.  With Him I know I am in good hands and I have no reason to fear.

So, keep calm and trust God.  He’s got this!

Have a great day!
