And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 ESV
We all know that starting something new can be difficult. When we try to eat healthy, it takes our bodies a few weeks to adjust. But the benefits are worth it, right?
When we set out to spend less, we may feel deprived but as we continue, we are encouraged when we see what we have saved.
Beginning a new exercise plan may seem daunting until we start to see results. And the list goes on. Our Scripture passage tells us we must not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. The key is to keep on keeping on.
James 1:2-4 goes so far as to say we should even consider it a great joy to experience various trials. The first time I read this, I thought it was a little crazy if you want to know the truth. But as I have lived this out, I have come to realize exactly what James means here. He goes on in verses 3-4 to explain. He said we should consider it a joy because we know when our faith is tested it produces endurance. A marathoner doesn’t just go out and run 26 miles, he must build up endurance and strength. James goes on to say endurance must do its complete work, so that we may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. Trials help us grow in our faith.
My grandma always told me that anything worth having is worth working for. I have learned that to be true. Getting my education wasn’t easy it took a lot of work, but it was worth it in the end. My job training wasn’t easy, and it was something we had to go through several times every year, but I loved my job, so it was worth it.
Relationships aren’t always easy, they require work, but we stay in them and do the work because we love the other person and we consider them to be worth it.
All these things that require changes or habits formed like eating right, working out, saving money and compromising get easier as we stick with it. Making lifestyle changes becomes easier as we begin to see positive results. So, as the Bible says we shouldn’t give up.
It’s also important that we pay attention to the verses just above our Scripture passage. Galatians 6:7-8 says, “Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap, because the one who sows to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit.”
Are you taking care of yourself? Are you filling your body with junk and not taking time to exercise. More importantly, are you taking good care of yourself spiritually? Are you spending time in praise and worship. Are you studying your Bible daily? Are you praying constantly?
Whatever we do whether it be good or bad, it gets easier and easier as we continue. If we start with a bad habit, our conscience may tug at us a bit, but it gets easier as we go. If we start a good habit and stick with it, it too will become easier as we go.
There is going to a come a time, which I believe will be soon, when we stand before the Lord and are judged for the choices we make. We will reap good things like an eternity in heaven or we will be thrown into a flame of fire. Those are our only two choices.
There is one thing I think will never get easier which is spending an eternity in fire.
I know from personal experience however that devoting yourself to prayer, Bible study and attending praise and worship services will become a habit that you have no desire to break if you take the time to make it a habit.
Have a great day!
