This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 ESV
We are very busy all the time it seems. No matter who you talk to, they are so busy. We are working, we are spending time and doing things with our families. We always seem to be on the go. Our minds seem to work overtime. There have been times in my life when I just couldn’t shut my mind down even to get some rest. Apparently, I’m not alone in this because they advertise all type of medicines and supplements to help us relax our minds.
It seems as though on any given day; we are being pulled in many different directions. In our Scripture passage, Joshua is reminding the people of his day what is most important. He’s reminding them to always be mindful of God’s word and His commands.
In Deuteronomy 11:18-23, the Israelites were instructed to store these words in their hearts, make them a sign on their hands and let them be a symbol on their foreheads. Back in early times, people actually kept a little leather pouch with God’s word in it and would wear it either on their wrist or as a headband. they were told to teach them to their children. They were told to discuss them when they sit in their house, walk along the road, lie down and get up. They were to keep God’s word and His commandments on their minds constantly.
In the following verses in Deuteronomy 11, God promised to bless them if they would do this. He promised to drive their enemies out before them. In verse 25, He said that no one would be able to stand against them because He would put fear of dread of them in all the land where they set foot.
I know we are all being pulled in many different directions, but the most important direction is the path that leads us to Jesus. We are told in Proverbs 3:6 that if we think about God in all we do, He will lead us on the right path. He will get us going in the right direction. We can trust in Him with all our hearts.
What I’m saying is don’t put God on the back burner because you are so busy with other things. Stay focused on Him and be mindful of Him in all you do. Put Him first in your life and He will help you and guide you in all you do.
I spent too many years of my life fitting God into my busy life. It took too long for me to realize that I needed to revolve my life around Him and He would work everything else out for me. Matthew 6:33 tells us that when we first seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, He provides all we need.
Trust in Him today. Put Him first in your life. If you are blessed to be someone who has influence over a child, teach them about God and His great love for them. Teach them to be mindful of His goodness and his mercy. Show them what a life lived with Christ looks like.
When we keep God in mind in all we do, it helps to bring us peace and joy in our busy lives. Always be mindful of Him. My friend got me a coffee mug that says, “I need a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus.” We all need a whole lot of Jesus. Put Him first in your life today.
Have a great day!
