In Jesus’ Name We Pray

For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself Human, who gave Himself a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.    1 Timothy 2:5 HCSB

I have spoken about the great power in Jesus’ name. People are healed and their sins are forgiven in Jesus’ name (James 5:14-15). Demons are driven out in Jesus’s name.

Have you ever asked someone to pray for you or someone you love? When someone prays for you, they are interceding or acting as an intercessor. They are going to God on your behalf through Jesus Christ. We know from Isaiah 59:2 that our sin creates a barrier between us and God, right? We know that all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). So, we can’t deal directly with God because of our sin. But praise God, He provided us with an intercessor in His Son, Jesus Christ. This is why we pray in Jesus’ name. We bring our requests to Jesus who intercedes on our behalf.

I will admit that there are times when I fail to remember the power that is in Jesus’ name. Jesus Christ gave Himself to die on a cross for you and me while we were still sinners. Nothing says love like that, right? So, we know that He loves us, but I think we often forget about the power that is in His name.

Our scripture passage says that the power to forgive sins, heal and even drive out demons is in Jesus’ name. In Mark 3:15 we are told that Jesus called the apostles to be with Him, to send them out to preach, and to have authority to drive out demons.

Romans 10:13 tells us that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. There is a power in Jesus’ name that I believe is so far beyond our comprehension. Luke 1:37 tells us that nothing will be impossible with God. When we go to God and pray in Jesus’ name we are calling on this tremendous power. We must have faith, we must realize the awesome power in Jesus’ name. We must understand that we are not only trusting in Jesus to intercede on our behalf but we must believe in His power to do so. We must believe in God’s power to do anything we ask.

While it is difficult to wrap our heads around the power that is in the name of Jesus, it is much easier when we are in a close relationship with Him. When we are in that committed relationship, we develop a better understanding of who He is and what He can do for us.

If you are not in a close relationship with Jesus, then I strongly encourage you to reach out to Him today. His arms are open wide, He’s been waiting for you to come to Him. Run into the shelter that He provides. Trust in Him to keep you safe and to provide unconditional love. Trust in Him to intercede on your behalf with God the Father. Never forget the power that is in His name.

When you don’t know what to say, just say Jesus. He knows what is on your heart and what is in your mind. He loves you and wants what is best for you. Won’t you call out to Him today? If you need salvation, if you need healing, or if you need strongholds from demons lifted, He can do that. Call on Him today.

Have a great day!
