“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
Who do you trust? I mean when things are really bad, who do you believe can fix it? I am amused by all the back and forth on social media and in the news about different political candidates and what they are and are not doing to help our nation.
Our nation has been steadily going downhill for many years and yet most people in our nation believe that if you elect this person or that person then everything can eventually be fixed. Only God can fix what we have here. Only prayer can help, yet many people would rather voice their opinions speaking out against the politicians and against the people that put them in office. What if we used the time that we were using to gripe and complain and went to God in prayer? What if as a nation, we humbled ourselves? What if we put away our pride and got down on our knees and looked to God to heal us?
We have become a nation that has removed God from the schools and then we have wondered why the schools have become such a dangerous place for our kids to be. We have become a nation that has condoned sexually immoral behavior and say that people have a right to express themselves. However we discourage public prayer and try to change our history. We try to forget the role that God played in the founding of our nation.
We are God’s people. We must humble ourselves. We must get down on our knees and pray to God for healing for our nation. We must turn from our wicked ways. We must strive for righteousness. We must not put all of our trust in man, but we must put all of our trust in God. I think we sometimes forget who is Lord of the universe. We sometimes forget that God holds the universe together and rules all that is in it. We forget that only God can fix this huge mess that is now in the world. We trust in this candidate or that candidate and honestly what can they do? Can they stop the flood waters. Can they keep the rivers in their banks? Can they heal the sick? Can they stop widespread disease? Can they put a stop to the violence that is worldwide? No, but if they pray, they can accomplish great things through prayer. When we seek a political candidate, we should do our best to seek a praying man for the job. We should seek a man who is able to humble himself and call on God daily, not just in times of trouble. We should seek a man that is not wicked or evil, but that trusts God. I mean really though, have you listened to the news? Have you ever listened to a news broadcast on any day and not heard of any trouble in our nation? Terrorism, racism, police officers being killed daily, these are just a few of the things that you hear about on any given day. Our leaders are constantly caught up in one type of scandal or another. Some are going to prison for illegal activity.
Today, I urge you to humble yourself and call out to God to heal our nation. We look to everyone else to save our nation, but actually it must begin with us personally. We can change ourselves, and maybe in doing so evoke a change in those around us. And maybe if those around us change, we can change our community and keep the change spreading. Only prayer can heal the sick and dying and folks our nation is sick. We need to pray daily for our nation and our leaders. We need to pray for God to heal our land. Pray for your local leaders and your state and national leaders.
It is so easy to sit down and say “well there is nothing I can do to fix this”. But you’re wrong, you can call out to God. He can fix this mess. Just as there is not a day goes by where the local and national news doesn’t have horrible news for us, there should not be a day go by that we don’t humble ourselves and pray for our nation and our leaders. Only through fervent prayer can we change things.
Have a great day!
