For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will someone die for a just person-though for a good person- perhaps someone might even dare to die. But God proves His own love for us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us! Romans 5:6-8 HCSB
When was the last time you walked into the store and picked up a carton of broken eggs and put them in your basket and purchased them and brought them home? Have you ever looked at some beautiful ceramic vases only to find one in the back that was broken and decide that is the one you wanted? I don’t know about you, but I want my money’s worth. I want the best I can get. I never buy a carton of eggs without inspecting them to be sure that not one egg is broken. I would not buy a vase that was broken into pieces.
But when you think about it, this is exactly what God did with us. Let’s face it, without God we are worthless. Life can feel us feeling broken and unworthy of God’s love. But he takes our brokenness and makes us whole. We don’t have to get ourselves together or clean ourselves up before we come to Him. He will take us just as we are, even if that is in a million pieces. Now this is in stark contrast as to how we operate, because in all honestly, we often treat those around us like eggs. If there is a broken one, we would just as soon leave the whole carton on the shelf in the store. We like for our friends and family to be put together so that they can be a support system for us. But the truth of the matter is, we would be in big trouble if God felt the same way about us.
I don’t know what stage of your life you are in. I don’t know if you are broken into a million pieces and lying on the ground. But I know that if you are, you can call out to God. He will pick you up and put you back together if you put your trust in Him.
Maybe you were just recently put back together but still feel a little fragile. Isaiah 41:10 tells us, Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous hand.
Now maybe, you have been swept up, put back together and are experiencing the peace and joy that is found in living in close relationship with our Lord and Savior. If you are, that is great! But don’t sit around basking in the peace and joy. Get out there and be a witness to others. Love on those broken people around you so that they too, can experience what you have. Don’t be greedy with it, there is plenty to go around. God never runs out of grace and mercy.
My prayer for you today, is that if you are broken, that you find the healing that can only come through Jesus Christ. If you are recently repaired, then I pray that you will stay in Christ and gain strength. Philippians 4:13 is one of my favorite verses. It tells us that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. And if you have been made whole, I pray that you show God your appreciation and celebrate by reaching out to others that are broken and hurting.
I praise God that he chooses us broken ones and I thank Him for his mercy and salvation. I pray that you turn to Him and allow Him to fix your brokenness and make you whole.
Have a great day!
