He Loves Us That Much

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but should have everlasting life.  John 3:16

Have you ever been in a relationship where you felt that someone loved you unconditionally, the kind of relationship where you had complete trust and confidence in that person and your relationship? Have you ever been in the kind of relationship where you knew the other person has your back come what may? If so, you should cling to that relationship. You should cherish it because even in the best of relationships, people are fickle. We all make mistakes and sometimes those mistakes effect those who love us.

But even if people let you down, you can count on the fact that God loves you. God loves you so much that He sent His son to die a miserable, painful, humiliating death for you on the cross. God loves you so much that He’s willing to forgive you of your sin just for the asking. God loves you so much that He wants to protect you, if only you will choose to let Him do so (Psalm 91:1-2). God loves you so much that He wants to work all things out for your good, if you will only love Him and live according to His purpose for your life (Romans 8:28). He loves you so much that He has good plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11). He loves you unconditionally. Even though you mess up, nothing can separate you from His love (Romans 8:38).

So we should start each day knowing that we are loved. We should start each day knowing that if God is for us then no one can win against us (Romans 8:31). We should start each day with the confidence that we are blood bought children of God. We know that we can do all things through Him who gives us strength (Philippians 4:13).

If God loves us, then this knowledge enables us to have peace at a time when the world is in chaos (Philippians 4:7). This knowledge enables us to be content no matter our circumstances (Philippians 4:12).

But there is one catch when it comes to God’s love. We have free will. This means that we can choose to accept it or reject it. Now you may ask, “Why on earth would anyone ever reject a love like that?”.  Sadly, I can answer that through personal experience. There were some years in my life when I chased after worldly desires. Even though this did not separate me from God’s love, it got in the way of me fully appreciating God’s love. It got in the way of me truly knowing who God was and how great His love was for me. It prevented me from loving Him like I should. I just didn’t understand the depth of His love for me and I didn’t understand how He desired to take really good care of me if I would only allow Him to do so. I wouldn’t say that I rejected His love, I just didn’t have a true appreciation for His love.

I did things my way and according to my fleshly desires and God allowed me to do that because He loves me that much. He loves me enough to allow me to make stupid mistakes even though it grieves His spirit (Ephesians 4:30). If someone loves us that much, why would we go against them? Why would we not return that love with all our heart, all our soul, and all our mind? Maybe Stephen said it best in his sermon in Acts chapter 7 when he said, “You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit; as your ancestors did.” Maybe for us to resist God was something handed down to us or maybe we just stubbornly hold on to our sin.

2 Chronicles 7:14 is a verse that has been mentioned a lot since the outbreak of COVID-19. It says, “If My people, who are called by My name, humble themselves, pray and seek My face and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”  God loves us so much that even the rotten mess we have gotten the world into can be healed if we will only turn to Him. Even though we have become a rebellious nation and rejected God’s love, there is still hope.

So I ask you today to turn to Him and accept all the love and mercy and grace that He has to offer. No human can love us like God can. His love is steadfast, true and never ending. It’s unconditional. If He loves us then there is nothing we can’t do.

I promise you there is no other love like the love that God has for us. I encourage you to love Him back with all you have. Go all in. You will never regret it.

Have a great day!
